800,000th Visitor:
Congratulations to Matt Spiller for being Arcade@Home's 800,000th visitor. As usual, Matt wins a free beverage of choice. If you know Matt, buy him a beer or soda pop on me ;-)

Arcade Cabinet Conversion:
George Rosas has converted a $100 (working) Knights of the Round cabinet to be his primary computer as well as video game machine. With the roll-out keyboard and 19" monitor, he can still do serious work. Then, just slide the keyboard in and get down to some serious gaming! Take a look at his project on the Cabinet Pics section.

Yet Another Cabinet Conversion:
Wayne Lawrence has also converted an arcade cabinet into his Cab!Net. This brings the total number of converted cabinets featured to 25 (not including mine) ;-) Check them all out on the Cabinet Pics section.

MAME v0.34 Beta 6 Released!
Well, here it is. NeoGeo sound is included in this release and the speed is very respectable. 34 new games in total have been added. Download it from the M.A.M.E. section.

Screen Shots for MAME v0.34 Beta 5:
Well, it took me a long time, but I've got screen shots for all MAME games. This includes many NeoGeo games that I didn't have screen shots for from previous versions. The set, at this time, is complete. Special thanks go out to Robbie Dickson and Gerardo Oporto Jorrˇn for assisting me with this task. Both the upgrade as well as the complete set are now available from the Front-Ends page.

More MAME NeoGeo News:
MAME's NeoGeo driver is advancing quickly. Sound support has been greatly optimized. It's now fast enough to be playable on most systems. Also, scaling, even to full screen, has been coded to work 100%. Finally, all NeoGeo games that have been dumped are supported, and of those, 99% are playable. If you love fighting games this is great news. The next release of MAME is expected to include these changes.

Retrocade v1.1 Beta 2:
Retrocade version 1.1 beta 2 is expected for private release within the next day. When I get it, I'll post any new information about it here.

Broke a New Record Yesterday:
Yesterday, Arcade@Home broke a new record for the number of visitors in one day, 5,930! This is *not* a page-view count (which was over 19,000), but actual visitors.

Another Arcade Cabinet Conversion:
Dread has converted a Street Fighter II cabinet to run MAME. His Arcadia cabinet and site are featured on the Cabinet Pics section.

MAME to Emulate NeoGeo Sound:
The MAME team has done it first! Sound in NeoGeo games is coming. It's still an early driver, but Dave W. reports that at least Puzzle Bobble and Super Side Kicks have sound (probably many or all others as well). Hopefully, the next release will include this driver so we can hear it for ourselves.

Free Arcade Cabinets:
If you're looking for an arcade cabinet to use with MAME and live in the Logansport, Indiana area (North of Indianapolis), there are two available for free! Lonnie Strunk has 2 old arcade cabinets, one is a Carnival (okay condition) and the other is a Super Cobra (which has water damage at the bottom). Both have boards and monitors that do not work. Send him an e-mail if you are interested. (NOTE: you must pick them up yourself)

MAME v0.34 Beta 4 Screen Shots:
MAME v0.34 beta 4's screen shots for Arcade@Home are on-line and ready for download. Both the upgrade from v0.34 beta 3 and the complete set are available.

MAME News:
Smash TV and Mortal Kombat are closer to being emulated today due to getting idle detection working. There are still a few crashing bugs that are keeping these games out of MAME beta releases. Also, sound support for NeoGeo games is being worked on. I refuse to play a game that doesn't have sound (it looses all excitement for me). No specific word yet, but they are getting close.

4 New MAME Machines:
WOW! What's going on here? 4 people submitted pics of their MAMEd machines in the last 24 hours. Check out the pics of Brad Oldham, Kim Pallister, Frode Gjerde, and Ev's cabinet projects on the Cabinet Pics section.

Josh Potter was our 700,000 Visitor:
Josh Potter was Arcade@Home's 700,000 visitor yesterday. As always, Josh wins his choice of beer or soda pop. If you know Josh Potter, buy him a beverage of his choice in care of Arcade@Home ;-)

Friday, October 9th, 1998
King of Boxer Added to MAME:
King of Boxer has been added to MAME and should be included in the next beta release. This is a clone of Ring King, a highly requested game to be emulated. Game play isn't yet perfect and the colors are still not 100% correct, but it is running.

Expected 700,000th Visitor:
It's expected that tomorrow, Arcade@Home will pass the 700,000th visitor mark. As always, if you are the one, e-mail me along with a screen shot to claim your prize ;-)

Capcom Side Art:
The Japanese Capcom site has side art GIFs of all their games from 1985 through 1997. They're all categorized by year. Half the site is in Japanese, but it's still easy to navigate and has the game names in english as well. You could use these images instead of your default screen shots in Arcade@Home or MAME32. Thanks go out to Richard Wang for finding this.

New MAME Machine:
Henry has converted his Ninja Gaiden cabinet into a MAME Machine. Pictures and a link to his site are provided on the Cabinet Pics section. Check it out.

Retrocade v1.1 Beta 1:
I've been playing with Retrocade v1.1 beta 1 (which is a private beta release) and wanted to inform everyone of the changes so far. As reported a few days ago, Dig Dug, Galaga, and Power Drive have been added. There's now an arcade game history pak file which gives pictures, specs, and a history of each game. Also, as previously mentioned, the RIVA 128 and the command line option problems have been fixed. There's a new option to give the retro scanlines and you no longer need to hit F8-F9 each time you run Defender. The problem with video cards that don't support linear frame buffer locking up has been corrected as is the problem where certain sound cards had no sound or ran slowly. Searching for games is much faster and Moon Cresta is 10% faster overall. The sound in PacMan is fixed, Food Fights controls work much better, and all games that use the spinner now have keyboard emulation. In all, this release is more stable and should give fewer people problems. No date, at this time, has been scheduled for it's release.

Pugsy's MAME Cheats Updated:
Pugsy's MAME cheats have been updated to include the mame v0.34 beta 3 and beta 4 games as well as other additions (49KB worth in all). It's available from the M.A.M.E. page under Utilities.

Sunday, October 4th, 1998
MAME v0.34 Beta 4 Released:
MAME v0.34 beta 4 was released on Saturday. I went on a mini vacation where there's no phone, so I couldn't get this update on-line till today :-( It's now available and supports several new games as well as some new features like correct sound in Donkey Kong and the backdrop in Discs of Tron.

Friday, October 2nd, 1998
Retrocade v1.1 beta 1:
Retrocade v1.1 beta 1 will have a private release this weekend to the beta testers. Besides the Galaga addition announced a few days ago, v1.1 will also include a few new games including PowerDrive, a monster truck game. When I get my hands on it, I'll give you all the details.
