Emulators Unlimited Not Shutting Down:
Looks like it was just an April Fool's joke. Didn't it just seem all to convenient? Looks like my offer to buy their domain won't be accepted after all =)

Just to Cheer Everyone Up:
Check out the news story at the above link. Seems like flushing "it" down the toilet equals permanent damage. Thanks to LesStoned for the news.

Unofficial MAME32 Beta 9 Released:
The unofficial MAME32 v0.35 beta 9 has been released. Remember, this is not the official version and don't bug the MAME team about it. Download it from the M.A.M.E. section. Thanks to CJC for the file.

Dave's Classics Is Down?
I know as much as you do about this. The thing earlier about the sister sites he's starting was just a joke =)

ClrMame v1.30 Released:
ClrMame v1.30 (the MAME directory cleaner) has been upgraded. I don't use it because I don't trust any program with my ROM files =) However, I've heard many people say that it works great. Download it from their site at the above link.

Emulators Unlimited Shutting Down!
It seems that The Fox from Emulators Unlimited (emuunlim.com) has decided to shut down shop and become a member of retrogames.com! He says: "in the next week or so the site will be closing as I own the rights to it". What this means to the hosted sites like emusphere.com remains to be seen. Read all the details at the above link.

Another Lamer's Fake Emulator:
These fake emulators made by half-wits are just too funny. Remember the Reality2 fake emulator? Well, here comes a fake Dreamcast emulator. According to the manual, it plays all Dreamcast games almost perfectly. The manual also talks about loading your Dreamcast ROM. Where can I download those 1GB Dreamcast ROMs from? =) Another fake indicator is the "Black and white FMV" option, that sounds strangely like bleem! The biggest fake indicator is that the lamer who wrote it also runs a half-baked emulation web site. I ran it on my test system and it didn't seem to contain any virus or do anything destructive to my system, but use at your own risk (the link is at the top of this section). Don't forget to e-mail him on how lame the fake "emulator" is. Lets fill his mailbox with Dreamcast ROM requests. =) He wrote it to be popular, lets not disappoint him. Thanks to asong for the url.

KBMAME Driver Updated, Again:
I forgot to mention yesterday that the KBMAME driver has been fixed to support the correct Ninja Master's v2 ROM. Download it from next to the KBMAME file on the M.A.M.E. section.

Back to T1 x 2:
The phone company got the second T1 line back up so the Arcade@Home site should be nice and fast again. :-) Good thing the T1s are from two different companies.

Site Seems Slow Today?
If the Arcade@Home site seems slow today, it's because one of my T1 lines died :-( The phone company is working on it now and they expect a resolution this afternoon. Being down from two to one T1 lines, we're at almost 100% utilization, so speed suffers. If you're on a 56K modem or less, you probably won't notice the difference. But, those on ISDN, cable modems, or higher, will just seem like you're on a 56K modem. Please note that this only effects the HTML pages. The file downloads are on a dedicated 10Mbps connection. :-)

Two Great Arcade Links:
If you're interested in rebuilding or repairing an arcade cabinet, check out the Arcade Restoration Workshop. It has great detailed information with picures and step-by-step instructions. Also take a look at Fabulous Fantasies. They are a retailer of just about anything Arcade related. Looking for a new overlay, artwork for your walls, furnature, a pinball machine or anything else? They probably have it. Thanks to Tom L. for the links.

Wednesday, March 24th, 1999

Arcade@Home's New Logo:
If you know how to use your browser, you should be seeing Arcade@Home's new logo in the upper left corner. Otherwise, you'll be seeing it in a few days (or whenever your cache runs dry). In any case, it was created by Borg from HotRod. Besides designing stylish logos, he also designs stylish controllers. Expect to be seeing more of these HotRod Joysticks in the near future.

MAME with ASM core, Galaga 88 & Pacmania Support:
Seems that Bike_Man has figured out how to compile MAME with the ASM cores (it was broke in the last release) and that Galaga 88 and Pacmania were in the source, just commented out! Get this great new version from the M.A.M.E. section. The description from Emulatronia's site translated using AltaVista's Systran yields some great information and a "bug" with the Systran software.
SUCK 0,35 new beta 7: As many of you you have occasion to verify, the immense majority of the games of system NEOGEO does not work in last beta 7 of SUCKS, due to an intense remodeling of the code of the emulated PCUs. Nevertheless, here is this compiled special version with version ASM of the M68K with which the previous problem is solved. In addition, there is a pair of games extra surprise that had not been activated previously facing the public: PACMANIA and GALAGA 88. These two games require 16 bit color so it calls to emu with " sucks pacmania - depth 16 " or " sucks galaga88 - depth 16 " so that they are seen correctly. Thanks to Bike_Man for the file and thanks to Ernesto Corví to have done driver of those two games.
You can probably figure it out on your own that the "bug" is that Systran translates MAME to SUCK =) Is it a bug or a programmers idea of a joke? Thanks to Emulatronia for the news.

MAME Backdrop Art Updated:
The backdrop art for 4 MAME games has been updated. The games with new art are: Asteroids Deluxe, Lunar Lander, Solar Quest & Warrior. It appears that the Asteroids Deluxe art was replaced with a different backdrop (it's almost all blue). The other art packs are much sharper. Download them from the M.A.M.E. section.

MAME to Include Game's History:
John Butler has added game history to a future version of MAME. This lists hisory (or trivia) about the games like Retrocade. They've also included Retrocade's history database as a starting point.

Retrocade Going to Public Betas!
It's basically been decided that Retrocade will be releasing public betas starting very soon. This is being done to find bugs quicker and to release versions more frequently (currently, releases are months apart). When I get the official word that it's a go, I'll let you know.

The driver posted yesterday wasn't correct. Deimos has corrected the file and it's available on the M.A.M.E. section along side KBMAME. Also, Deimos has confirmed that his source will be available with the next release. This is a new requirement for having your MAME derivative on this site to insure that you didn't steal someone else's work. Also, it follows the MAME licensing agreement.

KBMAME Neo-Geo Driver Updated:
This driver allows the Waku Waku 7 game to load correctly in KBMAME. This is another great feautre of KBMAME, you only need a small driver update to allow for additional game support or fixes. Download it from the M.A.M.E. section along side KBMAME. Thanks to Retrogames for the news.

VRMAME and P3MAME Removed:
It seems that VRMAME was just a rouge. Read the above link to see where the "author" admits that he just took a hex editor to KBMAME to create VRMAME (and took full credit I might add). He also admits that he's not a programmer and doesn't compile the MAME source code. Well then, how was P3MAME created? I've removed both of these files and all links to his site. If you're using either of these I recommend that you delete them and use a difference version. Thanks to Retrogames for the news.

Tuesday, March 16th, 1999
Arcade@Home Logo Contest:
I need some aspiring graphic artist to create for me new Arcade@Home logos. The one for the main page needs to be about 125x50 and the same light yellow color. The other logo on the Front-Ends section can be up to 500x70 and the same blue hue (both non-animated). What will you win? Well, nothing except for your name as the creator in the alt text and a link as my graphics designer on my Site Links section.

Will the Real Stephen Richards Please Step Forward:
Stephen Richards?
Stephen?
The Fox?
The Fox?
Stephen Richards (aka "The Fox" of Emulators Unlimited) was interviewed for next month's PC Zone magazine. While the interview didn't say much new, there was one interesting issue. Who is the real Stephen Richards? 6' 5" & 230 pounds of bad ass muscle, or 5' 7" & only 135 pounds soaking wet? =)  Is it just me, or do these two pictures not look like the same person? Just having fun with you Stephen.

No Updates Yesterday?:
Yeah, my internet connection died :( I had to russle up a 56k modem to update the site with. The problem isn't with my ISP, it's with Ameritech, they busted my line and can't even issue an order to fix it till Monday! What's up with that? I was on the phone with them yesterday for 6 hours! If you're as unhappy as I am, please feel free to call 1-800-572-4545 (dial codes 1,1,2 to get to the correct department) and express your opinion. Just refer to me as "The Man". =)

What Was Missed Yesterday?:

Download the New Star Wars Trailer:
Episode I Poster "The solution to pollution is dilution." While tree huggers may not agree with that statement, it does apply to the new Star Wars trailer. It's hard to get this trailer because of the "pollution" of millions of people trying to download it. My "solution" is to provide another place to download it, thus "diluting" bandwidth problems on key servers (mainly starwars.com and apple.com). This file was being hosted on a Web Jump server till we all killed it! =) Thanks to Chad W. for the alternate file hosting.

JoseQ's EmuViews is Back Up:
After being down for about 3 days, JoseQ's EmuViews is back on-line at a his new host. It appears that he wasn't welcome so he packed up his server and moved it. Read his site for all of the details.

KBMAME Development Pauses?
Yesterday the project ended, today it's only paused... I guess only time will tell what will really happen with KBMAME.

Wednesday, March 10th, 1999
KBMAME Development Ends:
After only a few weeks in existance, KBMAME (a Neo-Geo version of MAME with additional features like combo key assignments, 16-bit color and saves states) ends. The home page only says "3/11/99 KBMAME Project Ends". My guess is that his changes have been incorporated into the core of MAME, so there's no longer any need to develop KBMAME on his own.

AMAME & PMAME v0.35 Beta 5 Released:
AMAME and PMAME (the unofficial AMD/PII and Pentium/Pentium MMX versions of MAME) have been released. Download them from the M.A.M.E. section.

bleem! Site Updated:
While it's not the big news everyone has been waiting for, the bleem! site has been updated. I seems like bleem! will be released sooner rather than later and there was some clarifications to previous announcements. Read about it at the above link. Also, it appears that Final Fantasy 8 does run on bleem!. This has not been confirmed by bleem! but you can take a look at these screen shots and decide for yourself.

5 New Arcade Cabinet Conversions:
I've put off adding new arcade cabinet conversions for a few weeks but today you can view 5 new ones by: CodeBlue, John Babina III, James S. Bright, Pete Bartusek & Zinc. These cabinet conversions feature an excellent cabint with spinner and glowing trackball, a Dragon's Lair conversion, and another cocktail. Click on the above link and scroll down to the last 5 cabinets on the page.

The ... T-Shirt:
I guess there are still some good Monica jokes out there. Thanks to Mark H. for the picture.

Screen Shots for Arcade@Home:
The screen shots for MAME v0.35 beta 3, 4, & 5 have been released. I'm having a problem with Paint Shop Pro where when I load certain mame screen shots my computer locks up hard. This caused the release of these updates to be delayed. In any case, you can now download them from the Front-Ends section. Thanks to Gerardo for helping with these images.

Sunset Released (New N64 Emulator):
As reported here last week, Sunset (the new N64 emulator) was released today. This N64 emulator also uses dynamic recompilation like UltraHLE so it's fast. However, it's a crippled beta that only runs demos. However, the word is that they are well underway getting this emulator to run commercial software. Download it from their site using the above link. Thanks to Retrogames for the news.

AMAME, PMAME, & MAME32 Updated:

RealityMan Quits Emulation:
Pure News. is reporting that RealityMan (one of the authors of UltraHLE) is quitting emulation altogether. :( You can read his full statement at the above link. I wonder what he did with the source code? 1) Deleted it? 2) Sitting idle on his hard drive? 3) Gave it to another N64 emulator author? Hmm.

Old Dressing or a Y2K Bug?
My wife was going to make a salad and, as we all should, checked the expiration date before opening it. February 1900!? Either this is really old dressing or a Y2K "bug". Just to make sure, I'm going to skip the salad. I should take it back to the store and demand a refund =) Check out the image at the above link.

bleem! Delayed a Little Longer:
It appears that bleem! will not be released this week as previously thought. This is just little setback and it should be released shortly. They're asking for your opinion if you'd rather see bleem! released now at 95% or wait for the final 5% to be completed. But please, if you contact them, don't get angry or be rude. They've been getting these types of e-mails of late and it doesn't help them complete the project any faster. If it does anything, it makes them want to abandon the project altogether. In other words, follow this simple rule: "If you didn't pay for it, you don't have the right to bitch."

Unofficial MAME32 V0.35 Beta 4 Released:
The unofficial MAME32 v0.35 beta 4 has been released. Please note that this is NOT the official version of MAME32. Download it from the M.A.M.E. section.
