KIAME a Fake?
If you don't already know, KIAME is a yet to be released emulator for the arcade game Killer Instinct. There's been a lot of talk about if this emulator is a fake or not. I like to joke that all emulators are fake to me till I see them for myself =) However, I'll go out on a limb here and say that I think this emulator is as real as a $2 bill. =) (if you haven't seen a $2 bill, you haven't been to a casino in a while). Anyway, check out their site at the above link, view the screen shots and decide for yourself. There's a rumor that we'll see a release next week but without sound. Stay tuned.

How to be a Good Liberal
Because Bush picked his running mate today, I figured it was time to post this link. My wife found it on Dr. Laura's web site. Check out How to be a Good Liberal. It's funny because there's some truth to it. =) Dr. V sent in a scoring method to rank your liberalism:
  • 12-14 points: Are you sure you're not Hillary Clinton or Al Gore?
  • 9-12  points: Call the National Convention of the Democratic Party in D.C, the're looking for you.
  • 5-8    points: You must watch too much CNN.
  • 1-4    points: A little misguided, but you could be turned around with proper training.
  • 0       points: You are truly one educated American, able to see beyond the Liberal propaganda.
Funny stuff.

Snes9x v1.30 Released
Snes9x for Windows has been updated to v1.30. This release includes the following:
  • Forgot to force GUI surface to be displayed when some dialogs where popped up - problem only happened on full-screen mode with triple or double buffering enabled, or when using 3dfx mode. It appeared as if Snes9x had locked up, but pressing Esc would pop down the hidden dialog.
  • Added a couple of options to the Settings dialog. Now its possible to disable S-RAM auto-save which was causing Snes9x to write to the hard disk every 30 seconds on some games, causing the occational skipped frame.
  • Fixed Reset option which was accidentally broken when Netplay support was added.
  • Added support for Dirt Racer - it leaves the Super FX chip running all the time, so the default CPU emulation method never allocated any time to other CPUs and the emulation seemed to lock up.
  • NMI timing changed again. Now an NMI can only be triggered once per frame and enabling an NMI after the normal trigger scan line triggers an MI immediately. This fixes display glitches in Ys 5, Stargate and Daffy Duck.
  • Fixed the WAI instruction to only 'wake up' once an actual NMI has triggered, rather than just waking up when it should have triggered. This ixes Battletoads, broken since version 1.29(ish).
  • Changed NMI again. Made reading or writting to PPU register 0x4210 not clear NMI pending flag. Seems to allow all the NMI timing sensitive ROMs I had on my list to now work without any special hacks. Illusion of Gaia now works again.
  • Another NMI fix - cleared the CPU pending NMI flag at start of frame; Battletoads intro was crashing without this. A long DMA was stopping the SNES CPU so it couldn't and shouldn't respond to the NMI signal from the PPU.
  • Fixed Netplay problem when game didn't have any S-RAM and Sync Using Reset was being used. An error dialog was displayed and the client would disconnect from the server.
Download it from the Console Emulation section.

Violent Video Games Illegal in Indy
If you live in Indianapolis, Indiana get ready for a change in your local arcade. CNN reports:
Coin-operated video games in which people are decapitated, dismembered, mutilated or maimed will soon be off-limits to children in Indianapolis.
They're going to accomplish this in sort of the same manor they do for smoking sections of restaurants.
The law requires coin-operated games featuring graphic violence or strong sexual content to have warning labels and be kept at least 10 feet from nonviolent game machines. They must also be separated by a curtain or wall so minors cannot view them. The law bars people under age 18 from such games unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
To read more about this first ever law in a major U.S. city visit the above link. Thanks to John DeGroof for the news.

NGPocket v0.0.1213
NGPocket isn't a new Neo-Geo Pocket/Pocket Color emulator. However, for the longest time only a "Trial" version was available. Now it seems a full version is floating around. Because I can't find the author, the web site, nor any documentation on this emulator, I'm not sure if this version is a leaked full version or not. In any case, because there's no information that would make me believe that this emulator should not be distributed, I'm making it available. If, however, the author would like to come forward or if someone knows the official site for this emulator or any documented information about it, I'll pull it if it's not designed to be released. Also, for NGPC games check out the ROM Files section. Thanks to Paul for tracking this down.
