Final Burn v0.052 Released
Another day, another Final Burn release =) This version just adds the ability to specify a ROM directory. Here's the complete text:
Added a rom path variable 'szAppRomPath' to the cfg\finalburn.ini config file.
Final Burn will search in this directory for rom zip files.
By default it will search in the folder 'roms'.
(If you change this option, make sure you include the final \ on the path name.)
Go get it from the Arcade Emulation section.
ClrMamePro v1.8d Released
ClrMamePro is a ROM manager for MAME and other emulators. This release fixes a small bug where it deletes all your ROMs

Download it from the MAME Utilities section.
Raine Linux v20001029
The Raine port to Linux has been updated to v20001029. Some sites are calling this version 20001030, but the filename
is v20001029 so either the wrong code was posted or the 1030 was just the date it was released but it's still v20001029.
Anyway, here's what's new:
- Added sound to gunbird
- Fixed the sync problems with the new allegro sound
- Removed the useless drive letters box.
Download it from the Arcade Emulation section.
Happy Halloween

This excellent Atari 2600 emulator for DOS was updated to v1.40. This release adds the following:
- z26 is now Windows 9x long filename friendly! I didn't really believe it could be done in a DOS program, but Michael Walden Jr. came up with a very cool way to show a game's long filename in the title bar of the GUI.
- We have expanded the ROM capacity of the GUI from 693 to 2772 ROMs.

I now know who my 3 biggest fans are: W. Hand, P. Warren and C. Law. They purchased Arcade@Home t-shirts and mugs from my
on-line store. I owe YOU guys/gals a beer =) By the way, I make nothing from the sale of any item from the on-line store
at the above link. The costs are exactly my costs. If you buy something from the store, let me know and I'll post your
full name or a link or something if you wish. Even better, submit pictures of you wearing your Arcade@Home shirts. Even
better yet, get the baby-doll shirt and send me a picture of your girlfriend, wife or yourself (if you're a chick) wearing

Fire or Ice?
These guys hooked their thermostat to their web site and allow anyone to change their temperature by 1/100th of a degree.
Because we're a few months from really cold weather in Troy, New York, lets try to make these guys COOK!
Right now the temperature is set at 76.76°F (24.9C). If everyone reading this goes to the above link and clicks on the
"Hotter" arrow we could really make it hot in there =) They even show a graph of the temperature over the last 24 hours
and a webcam where you can turn on and off a few lights (I bet that's annoying also =) This reminds me of my hacking days
when I broke into a grocery store computer that controlled the temperature of the building and all the freezers. I won't
tell you what the result were there =)

Our Next President
I'm going to see our next president in about 30 minutes. I got a private invitation to meet him because of the Gore bashing
I've been doing over the past few weeks and his positive turn in the polls at the same time. Coincidence? ;) Anyway, maybe
I'll post picture in a few hours. If you're anti-Bush, I feel sorry for you but please don't e-mail me. He'll be you next
president so deal with it. =)

Network Problems
My host has been having some problems since about midnight last night. Because of this, some of you may not be able to
reach the site (so I guess you're not reading this) =) I can't reach the site either, and I'm posting this via a complex
series of communications from one server to another to get around the problem. They've promised that the problem will be
resolved shortly, but that was hours ago :/

The scanner fixmissing option will use these paths, too. A new set will be added to the defaultpath (if specified) not to rompath 0. To edit the system-default-paths you have to double-click on the system names (rebuilder or scanner).
- added: support for manufacturer tags (manufacturer will be displayed, too).
- misc: fix missing will now also tries to replace bad sized roms which weren't fixed by the fix size routine.

More Election Fun
Slow day so why not talk about the presidential election. "Why?" you may ask. Because I can =) You gotta love Al Gore.
So much funny material and new stuff every day. Today's topic: Al Gore's 21 Lies.
It shows just a few of Al Gore's big lies (there are new lies every day so I'm going to expect a new list in the next few
days). Anyway, the following lie is my favorite one. Al Gore tries to get votes from minorities by claiming that he's
for affirmative action and against racial profiling. But, check out this big lie:
- FICTION: Al Gore said his father, a senator, was a champion of civil rights during the 1960's.
- FACT: Gore's father voted against the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964 and was a racist who was fond of using the "N" word.
Oops! Should have checked dad's record before saying that. And you know what kinds of kids get raised from racist
parents, don't you? Anyway, check out more Al Gore lies at the above link. Please, no protest e-mails. If you don't like
to hear the truth, don't click on the above link =)

Final Burn v0.040
Final Burn now supports Galaxy Force II in version 0.040! Here's what else is new:
- Galaxy Force II!
- What was up with the GF palette? Turn out there's a palette reference into an EXTRA palette (a possible 32768 colors), which in turn goes into the normal main palette (16384 colors), which in turn goes into the GLOBAL palette (4 million colors). The word 'nightmare' comes to mind, but it's sorted now! Power Drift almost totally ignores this 'feature' (apart from the spinning wheels), which is why that worked okay.
- Added a new option for Auto-Centering Keyboard! To use, first you must load up the game you wish to play, bring up the menu panel if it isn't already visible (press Escape), click Input, and then click Keyboard (Auto-Centering). It works really well with Galaxy Force II, Power Drift (in-game anyway!), ThunderBlade and Out Run. For After Burner however, it's much easier to aim if you select the normal Keyboard option.
- In fact, Keyboard with Auto-Centering works so well that I have also made it the default. People who want to use a joystick should now configure games by clicking Input and then Joystick 1 (only need to be done once per game).
- Note, now F = Burners, G = Brakes (or you can use A and Z if you are using Joystick 1 2-button or Keyboard.)
- The Galaxy Force Hardware uses a powerful tilt/rotate effect, which isn't emulated yet.
- Lot's of glitches - don't e-mail, I know about them!
- Galaxy Force II uses a LOT of sprites in the tunnel sections (each wall has about 50-100 sprites). It slows down my computer, so you probably do need a P3 this time (for the tunnel sections anyway). A shame.

Clarification
Okay, maybe I'm just splitting hairs here, but can we all (including emulation authors) PLEASE
stop calling the first After Burner, After Burner I. It was just called After Burner, just
like the first "Rocky" movie wasn't called Rocky I or the first "Friday the 13th" didn't have a
'I' after it. Now I feel better getting that off my chest. =)
After Burner in MAME
The MAME WIP page has been updated to show progress for the last few days including After
Burner and After Burner II support:
- October 11th, 2000: smf submitted some MAME debugger fixes.

- October 9th, 2000: Yochizo re-applied the Toaplan2 driver updates, and fixed the YM2151 interface to be 16-bit.

Final Burn v0.035 Released
Man, it's been like 4 days and I REALLY needed my Final Burn fix =) Here's what's new in v0.035:
- Reduced AB's Interrupt 2 to 1500 times a second because it was messing up the intro.
- Fixed sluggish controls in After Burner. Input is now read by calling Interrupt 2 3000 times a second rather than 60 times a second.
- Some people have reported some corrupted sprite graphics in some levels of After Burner I and II: it's first visible as some vertical lines on some rocks on level 1, but is very visible on the level 10 rocks, and the trees on level 13. This particular corruption seems to be caused by a very slightly misdumped version of the 128k graphics rom "10937" - a fixed version of this rom will solve this problem. However it won't solve all the graphical glitches. I have updated Final Burn with the correct CRC of this file, so it will warn you if you have the corrupted rom.
Download it from the Arcade Emulation section.

Snes9x Win v1.32 Released
A new version of one of the best SNES emulators has been released. Here's what's new:
- Changed the Windows port to delay load the two OpenGL DLLs, so now they're only loaded if you switch to OpenGL mode. The original version of Windows 95 didn't include the OpenGL DDLs, so Snes9x wouldn't even start on that platform; now it should.
- Added yet another sound buffer option to the Windows port - this time the block size of sound data to mix. Some DirectSound sound card drivers only report the play position moving in steps rather than continuous amounts and Snes9x's default mix block size turned out to be smaller than this step value on several cards. Snes9x couldn't work out out where the true play position was accurately enough resulting in broken, noisy sound output.
- Modified the Windows frame timer code to use semaphores rather than events - they should make Snes9x more reliable at not missing frame sync pulses when Windows is busy doing background tasks.
- Added SA-1 shutdown code - basically, Snes9x now stops emulating SA-1 CPU instructions when the SA-1 enters an idle loop waiting for the main SNES CPU to give it something to do. All SA-1 run much faster and smoother now.
- Added multi-axis joystick/game controller support to the Windows port and tweaked the dead-zone threshold position a little.
- It looks like the SNES PPU was designed to support 128K of V-RAM but only 64K was fitted; Snes9x wasn't wrapping all V-RAM address to stay within the 64K limit causing a corrupt title screen on ReX Ronan - there will be others.
- Added amend functionality to the Windows Cheat Entry dialog and added extra text boxes for direct address and cheat value input rather than only being able to type in a Game Genie or Pro-Action Reply code.
- BS Suttehakkun2 was crashing just before start of play - the ROM was performing a junk DMA that was corrupting RAM, crashing the game when it went searching for a particular value.
- F-1 Grand Prix requires IRQ triggering when IRQ scan-line register set to current scan line, but Chuck Rock objects. Hmm. Chuck Rock seems to indicate the CPU emulation is running too fast, but I can't see where the mistake is. Special-cased Chuck Rock for now.
- Optimised SNES DMA handling slightly - copying data to SNES V-RAM is now significantly faster.
- Windows Cheat search dialog was ignoring data type parameter in various places which was causing problems when larger numbers were being searched for.
- Forced unknown PPU register reads to always return 0 - a coding bug in Equinox shows that this is required. An earlier fix didn't work.
- Puya Puya 2 & remix were objecting to an NMI being triggered when enabling NMIs after scan-line 226, but Ys 5 seems to require this. Hmm. Added a hack to support both games.
Download it from the Console Emulation section. Thanks to Goodhart for the news.

a search feature! Check it out at the above link!
Final Burn v0.031 Released
Final Burn v0.031 now adds support for Power Drift! It also jumps 8 revisions! =) Here's what's new:
- Fixed the difficulty setting of PD to normal.
- Added support for the Triple-68000 game Power Drift! (You need a very fast PC to run this game fullspeed (a Pentium 3)).
- Sound support for Power Drift (the easiest part believe it or not!)
- It is very playable on a Pentium 3, but there are many glitches all over the game.
- Modified the After Burner HW so that the controls are read 'properly' using interrupts rather than just inserted into memory (cheers to Phil from the MAME team for noticing this!). For the user, you'll see no difference, but the emulation is more accurate.
- Fixed that occasional "vertical banding" problem that JoseQ and some others were having in the scanlines mode - it wasn't anything to do with bilinear filter after all!
Download it from the Arcade Emulation section.

Gore Wears Pampers
<political rant>What a baby Gore is. He needed to get the last word on everything. How childish. Let me summarize
Gore and Bush. Gore thinks the government knows how to spend your money best while Bush thinks the people that made the
money know how to spend it best. And don't buy Gore's 1% thing that he said in every answer. Bush would like to change the
tax code so the highest percentage tax rate would be 33% (while the lower tax brackets would be capped at 25%). Sure, that
does help the top 1%, but it also helps the middle class while Gore's plan doesn't help most of the middle class AT ALL. Also, who
do you think employees the middle class? The top 1% of course! Give them a tax break and they will have more money to
spend on growing their business and hiring employees. I swear, people just don't get it. Wake up people! It's your money!
And Gore wants to spend your money! Check out the Bush tax calculator at the above link to see how much your family would
save. Then ask yourself why Gore's site doesn't have a tax calculator, maybe he's trying to hide something?</political rant>
Now back to your regularly scheduled program... =) Image courtesy of NoFaDz.
