MAME WIP for 1/29
Yo, more MAME Looping news:
- January 29th, 2001: Olivier Galibert wrote 054539 sound chip emulation (thanks to CAB), and now Xexex and X-men have sound. Phil Stroffolino sent in the playable Looping and Sky Bumper driver, with correct graphics and colors, but it lacks one of the nicest features of the game - speech and music. The COP420 microcontroller in fact helps with the CPU communication, so it is probably necessary for sound emulation.
Check out the screen shots at the above links.
Final Burn v0.087 Released
Guess what?
- Input is now always read for every frame, even if the emu is frame skipping. It makes no difference here since the emu hardly ever frame-skips, so I'm uploading this mainly because I'm curious - does it help anyone else's controller problems?
Download it from the Arcade Emulator section.
ClrMamePro v1.92 Released
The MAME ROM manager ClrMAME Pro was updated to v1.92, here's what's new:
- added: warning message when scanner and rebuilder merge mode differ
- added: not-separated-biosroms-warning when enabling adv. unneeded
- misc: disabling 'name' doesn't disable 'missing' now (but enabling 'missing' does enable 'name')..hehe..confusing..no way ?
- misc: merging between different bios systems can be allowed
- misc: rewrote the clipboard routines (much faster now)
- fixed: rebuilder/merger rebuilds/merges only activated sets
Download it from the MAME Utilities section.
MESS v0.37b11 Released
The multi-console emulator MESS was updated to v0.37 beta 11. Download it from the Console
Emulator section.
Final Burn v0.086 Released
This man should be stopped! Two releases in rapid fire. Here's what you get:
- CPS2 EEPROM data (which holds the settings in the test menu) is now stored to disk.
- If bDrvSaveAll in finalburn.ini is 1, all CPS Ram (i.e. the current state) will also be saved to disk. (But save slots and mid-emu saving are not supported yet)
- (Added a few CPS1 games to save people rom swapping)
- Added support for Megaman (Asia), (no sound)
- Added support for Rockman (Jpn), (no sound)
- Added support for Ghouls 'N Ghosts (no sound)
Download it from the Arcade Emulator section, or just wait an hour and a new version will be released.

Final Burn v0.084 Released
Well at least this version didn't skip a number, I think he's onto me. Here's what the man added:
- Added keys for all three Punches and Kicks in the CPS2 games. To define them, use the Input list.
- (Vampire) Fixed the problem with the EEPROM emulation. (Note EEPROM is not saved to disk yet though.)
- (VSav) Fixed the graphical glitch where Shadow was shown on the Red Curtain screen
- (Vampire) vampja.ini should have been called vampj.ini, fixed.
Download it from the Arcade Emulator section.
MAME WIP for 1/28
Another day, another MAME WIP update:
- January 28th, 2001: Phil Stroffolino made a big step forward with the Looping driver. While the game is definitely not playable yet due to the unemulated COP420 microprocessor, at least the title screen shows up.
- January 27th, 2001: Paul Leaman added Vampire: The Night Warriors to the CPS-2 driver, and like Vampire Savior, it will not work before some important 68k core changes are made. Bryan McPhail sent in a Taito F3 sound update, with the sound cutting out bug fixed and stereo sound implemented (it was mono before). Ville Laitinen submitted the Roller Aces driver with sound emulation, though the sound may not be perfect. David Graves fixed the input port settings in the Slap Shot driver and now the single player game works. Phil Stroffolino added VS Gong Fight to the Taito Samurai driver, but it may have some bad colors. Mike Coates separated the 68000/010 and 68020 cores so that the ASM 68k core can be used with the C 68020 core, giving a nice speed boost to all the 68k games. Aaron Giles added another ROM set to the Hard Drivin' driver but it still suffers from a few small quirks.
Check out the screen shots at the above links.
RockNES v1.703 Released
One of the better NES emulators RockNES for DOS was updated to v1.703. What was added follows:
- Fixed savestate code to suit big-endian byte order (the MacOS);
- Fixed EAGLE blitting (removed debug junk);
- Fixed sprite ram data overflow (oh boy);
- More fixes to MMC5 (IRQ is working again, sorry).
Download it from the Console Emulator section.
Jnes v0.40 Beta 2 Released
The Nintendo NES emulator for Windows Jnes was updated to v0.40 Beta 2. Here's what's new:
- Put a cap on direct input error handling during game play
- Rewrote some window handling routines for full screen
- Fixed a bug in the window size menu-check handling
- Initialized the task variable to zero correctly, hopefully this fixes problems people experienced with save states doing odd stuff!
Download it from the Console Emulator section.

Final Burn v0.083 Released
So, who isn't playing Final Burn, the only CPS-2 emulator on Earth? Guess what? New release of Final Burn:
- Made 640x480 the default res, because it works quite well for all games. For CPS2 scanlines, make sure the res is 640x480 in finalburn.ini. Now just make sure stretch is NOT ticked, and hit scanlines. Voila - fullscreen scanlines.
- Fixed "VS Screen" rowscroll problem (background effect) and alignment of the hiscore screen. Final Burn now checks for CRC *errors* in a Zip file (i.e. if the zip file is corrupt) as well as checking if the CRCs of the roms are correct.
Download it from the Arcade Emulator section. Also, why does the version number of this emulator skip some versions?
What is the author trying to hide from us? I've VERY suspicious and we better all keep our eyes on him =)
MacMAME v0.37b11a Released
If your computer seems faster and/or better because the case is semi-transparent colored plastic, you should put your
Barbies down, carry your purse over to the M.A.M.E. section, and download the latest release of MacMAME. Here's what's new:
- In sync with the DOS 0.37 beta 11 build. [Brad Oliver]
- Many fixes to the PowerPC 68ec020 core, although it's still not perfect. [Brad Oliver]
- Many fixes for the Carbon version. It is now usable, although it is still lacking in many areas. Please do not report bugs on the Carbon build. [Brad Oliver, Raphael Nabet]
- The debugger window now renders properly in all cases {Raphael Nabet]
- Fixed problem with some new 020 opcodes, also fixed crash when using renderer plugin. [Brad Oliver]
You know you want to play Ms. Pac-Man and Pig Newton, so go get it.

CPS-2 Vampire Download
If you haven't figured it out already, Arcade Emulation has the newly supported CPS-2 game Vampire: The Night Warriors (Jap)
available for download. If you just crawled out from under a rock, Final Burn now supports three CPS-2 games and the link
to Arcade Emulation can be found on the ROM Files section.
MAME WIP for 1/26
Oh joy, more Mahjong games. Would someone please try to defend these sorry excuses for "games"? You've gotta have no life
to enjoy that crap. Anyway, here's what's going on at the MAME camp:
- January 26th 2001: Paul Leaman added Vampire Savior to the CPS-2 driver, but it needs some 68k core changes to get it working properly.
- January 25th 2001: Takahiro Nogi sent in a huge update to the Nichibutsu Mahjong driver. Several bugs and graphical errors have been corrected, and the following games are added:
Pastel Gal,
Mahjong Nanpa Story (old version),
Mahjong Final Bunny,
Mahjong Hyouban Musume,
Mahjong Uranai Densetsu,
Mahjong Koi no Magic Potion,
Mahjong Pachinko Monogatari,
Medal Mahjong Janjan Baribari,
Mahjong Bakuhatsu Junjouden,
Mahjong Gal 10-renpatsu,
Mahjong La Man,
Mahjong Keibaou,
Medal Mahjong Pachi-Slot Tengoku,
Mahjong Sailor Wars,
Mahjong Sailor Wars-R,
Bishoujo Janshi Pretty Sailor 18-kin,
Bishoujo Janshi Pretty Sailor 2,
Disco Mahjong Otachidai no Okite,
Nekketsu Grand-Prix Gal,
Mahjong Gottsu ee-kanji,
Mahjong Circuit no Mehyou,
Medal Mahjong Circuit no Mehyou,
Mahjong Koi Uranai,
Mahjong Scout Man,
Imekura Mahjong,
Mahjong Erotica Golf and
Niyanpai.
- January 24th 2001: Brad Oliver fixed some compilation bugs which affected the Mac port. Phil Stroffolino added Chinese Hero to the preliminary Shanghai Kid driver, but unlike Shanghai Kid, it doesn't have protection so it works perfectly.
After you get over all the excitement of 27 new Mahjong games, towel yourself off and check out the screen shots at
the above links. "Mahjong Erotica Golf", like I said, no life, and that proves it.
Final Burn v0.080 Released
The only CPS-2 emulator Final Burn adds support for another CPS-2 game, Vampire: The Night Warriors. Here's what else is new:
- Added Vampire (Jpn), which is also known as DarkStalkers. We haven't found a region switch for it yet :( There may not be one. There's a problem with the eeprom - haven't figured it out yet. Otherwise it looks perfect to me!
- Note for the rom manager programs about Vampire - I'm considering the files:
- Input can now be configured from the emu. Press Input to bring up the Input List, double-click on an input, and press a new key, joystick/pad direction or joystick/pad button for it. (Note that if you playing the Sega games, you can't use this to configure analog controls yet - you will have to edit the game's .INI file still. Also, you will have to edit the games .INI file to set dip switches and region codes.)
- Added a layer switch for CPS games (Alt-L). Press to toggle background layers on or off. You can use this to show only the sprites.
- Fixed the Victor lariat 'teleport' bug, which was caused by being able to press left and right at the same time. (Of course you can't do this on the original arcade, but if you could, the bug would probably happen there as well!)
- Fixed some Triple Buffering problems.
- Refined the sprite priority patch so it only modifies sprites when absolutely necessary, and also added the other priority levels. Tiny little fixes: the blue flame and picture on Dem's stage is fixed, and the bats now *don't* fly over the red cave on Morrigan's level in VSav (which is the way it is in the arcade).
- Rowscroll also fixed (it used to created a bit of a glitch at the bottom of the Iron Horse Iron Terror stage as the train scrolled on)
Download it from the Arcade Emulator section.

- Fixed small bug in the MMC5 code that would cause the emulator to crash under Linux, and just mess up MMC5 games under Windows.
- Many bug fixes.
- Sound code partially rewritten to improve quality(near-perfect raw PCM now) and eliminate the need for a separate thread. This created a small problem with network play, though, so read the network play notes section. Also, synchronizing to vertical blank has been removed.
- Rewrote other pieces of sound code. No more "buzzing" in MegaMan 2, Codemasters games' intros, etc.
- Added support for the NES Zapper and the VS Unisystem's light gun. Be sure to read "Light Gun Notes".

The only CPS-2 emulator Final Burn was updated to v0.079. Here's what's new:

- Fixed a very large bug in the way QSound sample data was read! All the drum problems are now fixed (e.g. Lei-Lei's music, Morrigan's winning theme), and voice samples are a lot clearer (e.g. Lilith's "Shining Blade").
Download it from the Arcade Emulator section.

Final Burn v0.074 Released
Final Burn (the only CPS-2 emulator) was updated to v0.074. Here's what's new:
- Triple buffering in fullscreen mode! For those who don't know what this does, triple buffering allows a 'clean' update
of each frame of graphics, without any image tearing. End result - fast moving images look better. It's like WaitVbl or
VSync, only it doesn't slow down the emulator at all. Triple buffering is supported on most modern video cards, but if it
fails to init for any reason, the emulator will just do the graphics the old fashioned way.
- Oops! DirectDraw Init was slightly wrong. If you have a low-end video card and didn't previously see graphics, try this version.
Download it from the Arcade Emulator section.
Emulator Sorting
All emulator downloading sections now have the ability to sort the lists to your heart's content. By default, they're
still listed in my own personal order where the best, fastest, and most popular files are listed at the top. However, you
can click on the sorting arrows to put the list in platform, name, last updated, hits, or score order. Give it a try and
let me know if it's broke. Thanks to Exodus3D for the idea.

MAME WIP
Big MAME WIP update:
- January 15th 2001: Bryan McPhail finally submitted his Taito F3 driver, which is not graphically perfect and crashes hard sometimes but has complete ES5505 sound emulation thanks to Aaron Giles, Ian Schmidt and R. Belmont. Not all games are working due to 68020 core bugs, but these are: Ring Rage, Arabian Magic, Riding Fight, Grid Seeker: Project Stormhammer, Gunlock / Rayforce, Super Cup Finals / Hat Trick Hero '93, Top Ranking Stars, Lightbringer, Kaiser Knuckle / Global Champion, Bubble Bobble 2 / Bubble Symphony, Space Invaders DX, Power Goal / Hat Trick Hero '95, Quiz Theater - 3tsu no Monogatari, Akkanvader, Moriguchi Hiroko no Quiz de Hyuuhyuu, Puzzle Bobble 2 / Bust-A-Move Again, Puzzle Bobble 2X, Kyukyoku Tiger 2, Bubble Memories, Cleopatra Fortune, Puzzle Bobble 3, Arkanoid Returns, Kirameki Star Road, Puchi Carat and Pop 'N Pop.
- January 14th 2001: David Graves added double width tilemap support to the TC0480SCP chip emulation and wrote a Slap Shot driver but it has incomplete sprite graphics decoding so some graphical errors remain.
- January 13th 2001: Nicola Salmoria fixed the window border graphics in the Shanghai driver.

Find the Arcade Emulation link on the ROM Files section.
New Wizard of War Samples
A user by the name of "Sheesh" has painstakingly edited all of the missing sound samples in Wizard of War. He
hacked, edited and put together parts of other wave files to produce the missing ones.
They are not 100% prefect, but they are a TON better than the old set. Download it from the MAME Sound Samples section
at the above link.

Latest MAME Needed Soon
Looking for the latest MAME Needed Soon games including Street Fighter Zero? Head on over to Bob's Arcade Emulation which
can be found on the ROM Files section.
Latest MAME WIP News
Do I see MAME emulation of Street Fighter Zero in the near future? As I've said before, CPS-2 emulation was always easy,
it was the encryption that was difficult:

- January 11th, 2001: E. Watanabe submitted an update to the Gradius / Nemesis driver, adding Nyan Nyan Panic and City Bomber.

Paul Leaman added the necessary modifications to the CPS-1 driver to allow CPS-2 emulation, and he added support for Street Fighter Zero.
- January 9th, 2001: Guru added a new Mobile Suit Gundam romset to the Seta driver, and the game is very much playable. Howie Cohen got some assistance from Ben Parnell and VS Sky Kid is now playable. Gerardo Oporto fixed some more Taito games' dip switch settings.

Impact 432756 Released!
From the Impact site:
A "new" version of impact has been released even though the emulator was discontinued long ago. I managed to find an old
unreleased beta version which supports all games build 3116 supported but with some additional minor bugfixes. If you are
allready using beta 3116 you wont notice that much difference but you're still adviced to get this newer version.
Note: The Windows NT/2000 problem is still present in this version so it will only run in Windows 9x/Me. The Windows
version is discontinued so don't report any bugs.
Even dead emulators get updated! You will notice new are games supported in this release. They're available from the
ROM Files section. Finally, new renderers for Impact are also available on the Arcade Emulator section. Have fun...
Pentium/Bill Gates Joke
I read over at the excellent site Retro-Remakes
that there's a little Bill Gates joke on every Pentium II chip. The guy who did it got fired. Intel has no sense of humor.

E-Mail a Friend
Added a new E-Mail a Friend option to just about every page on Arcade@Home. You can even use it to e-mail yourself to
remind you of a page or a download (it e-mails the exact page you were on). To use it, click on the E-Mail link that's at
the top right of almost every page. Also notice the little e-mail animation that I drew (cute, huh? =) Use it or I'll have
to add another pop-up campaign or something =)

Server Update
The site should be running at full speed now. I'll keep you up to date about the server move and any problems that may
happen from it.
Slow Server
If you can even read this, yes, I know, the server is really slow today. Two issues:
- CAIS (where this server is located) is having network problems that causes slowdowns. These problems have got worse over the last week, which led to issue #2.
- Because of CAIS's network problems, I've found a new host and I'm currently mirroring all the content over to the new server. This mirroring is causing further slow-downs becuase of the network problems identified above.
Anyway, I'm hoping to switch things over in the next several days and be live on the new server. If things break during this time, that's the reason.
