However, every driver needs to be updated to include the save states. Bryan McPhail fixed Prehistoric Isle graphics, and he corrected the CPU communication in Dec8 driver, fixing Last Mission test mode. Quench fixed a bug in Karnov that caused it to crash sometimes. Howie Cohen fixed the VSNES and Playchoice 10 drivers that were broken in b12, and he added proper crosshair support to both drivers. Olivier Galibert also added road layer emulation to Xexex. Download it from the Arcade Emulators section.

Bliss v1.44 Released
The Java-based Intellivision emulator Bliss was updated to v1.44. Here's what's new:

  • Added a partial translation to Spanish. Thanks to Juan Fernando Rivera Pernía for this translation!
  • Added a complete translation to Portuguese. Thanks to Leandro Stevanato Alves for this translation!
  • Moved reset to F9. Reset was previously documented as being on F2, but because of a bug, it was actually F6, which was intended to eventually become the "Save" button. However, a user astutely pointed out that F2 was far too close to the "Pause" button (F1), so the final resting place for the reset button is now F9. Note that all of these buttons will eventually become configurable just as the input is configurable now.
Download it from the Console Emulators section.

Check out the screen shots at the above links.

Final Burn v0.104 Released
The CPS-2 emulator Final Burn was updated to v0.104. Here's what's new:
  • Added ADPCM sound to CPS1 games.
  • Changed CPS2 cpu speed to 12mhz.
  • Changed scanline mode to reduce flickering.
Download it from the Arcade Emulators section.

Bliss v1.43 Released
The Intellivision emulator for Java was updated to version 1.43. Here's what you get in this release:
  • Added an option to adjust the accuracy of the sound chip emulation. The sound chip is the largest consumer of CPU time, and adjusting this option allows Bliss to "fudge the numbers" a bit. At the highest setting, Bliss retains the cycle-exact timings that have always been used prior to this release. At the lowest setting, there is a very noticeable boost in performance at the cost of a loss of sound accuracy that is barely noticeable to most users in most games.
  • Added the ability to pause with the F1 key.
  • Added the ability to reset the Intellivision with the F2 key.
  • Added the ability to take screenshots with the F12 key. Screenshot files are saved in 320x192 PNG format. (I love open standards!)
  • Added a troubleshooting document detailing the most common problems discovered with using Bliss.
  • Added instructions for translating Bliss to another language. Moved the internationalization files (*.properties) to a central i18n directory to facilitate translations.
Download it from the Console Emulators section.

Final Burn v0.103 Released
Final Burn was updated to keep up with the latest CPS2Shock releases. I only had to wait 5 mintues for the ztnet/climax media server to download the 150k file at 3 to 500 bytes/sec (yes, I said BYTES/sec). Here's what's new:
  • Added Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo (ETC) (Haven't done Asia yet.)
  • Fixed SSF2 crc.
  • Fixed a bug where CPS1 games would not start if sound was disabled.
  • Doh! - there was a stupid bug: the video/system memory switch in finalburn.ini actually selected the wrong one! Fixed now - instead of reversing it, I just renamed the variable to nAppUseSysMemory. Remember, if Final Burn runs very slowly, before you buy a new PC, just try changing nAppUseSysMemory to 0 or 1 in finalburn.ini and see if it helps at all.
Download it at 100kB/sec from the Arcade Emulators section.

CPS-2 Super Street Fighter II Turbo
Yet another CPS-2 game was decrypted, this time it's two versions of Super Street Fighter II Turbo. Because of the ULTRA slow speed of all ztnet/climax media sites, here's local copies of the decryption tables on our fast server:Note that these are NOT the ROMs but simply XOR tables that allow the encrypted ROM's to be unencrypted.

MAME WIP for 2/19-2/21

  • February 20th, 2001: Karl Stenerud fixed some 68k disassembler bugs.
  • February 19th, 2001: Nicola Salmoria added Sadari into the Dooyong driver.
No pictures this time, deal with it.

A@H Featured in Shaving Ad
A@H Shaving Ad Now here's a strange ad for Arcade@Home. March's FHM magazine (one of the UK's largest men's magazine) has a two page ad for the shaving gel "King of Shaves". It features the owner of "Jason Shankey Men's Grooming Center" in Belfast and asks him some questions like what he drives, what he wears, and what his favorite web sites are. Anyway, his #2 favorite website is none other than Arcade@Home. The above link takes you to the front cover of the magazine and image #2 and #3 are the ad (image #3 is where he lists Arcade@Home). This has got to be one of the most twisted ads for Arcade@Home. Although, it does hit the market of the 25-35 year old crowd and does have a circulation of over 700,000 and I'm sure they will use the ad in other magazines ("King of Shaves" is sold in the US also). Thanks to Andy and a few other people who pointed this ad out.

You can request free samples of King of Shave products, shop online at discounted prices, free delivery on orders over £20 / $35, tips, info and more at http://www.shave.com!

Final Burn v0.102 Released
Final Burn was updated to add support for Street Fighter Alpha 2, the latest CPS-2 game to have decryption tables released. Here's what you get:
  • Added Street Fighter Alpha 2
  • Added a cpu speed switch to the CPS1 game Street Fighter 2 Turbo. I think 10 or 12mhz is too fast, but 8mhz is about right.
Download it from the Arcade Emulators section.

MAME WIP for 2/18

  • February 18th, 2001: E. Watanabe fixed the ASM 68k core to work with Namco System 2 and Taito F3 sound. Bernd Wiebelt fixed the 32-bit MMX blitting routines. Phil Stroffolino sent in an almost completely working Shanghai Kid driver.

CPS-2 Street Fighter Alpha 2
Yet another CPS-2 game was decrypted, this time it's Street Fighter Alpha 2. Because of requests and slow speeds of other sites, here are all of the CPS-2 decryption tables:Note that these are NOT the ROMs but simply XOR tables that allow the encrypted ROM's to be unencrypted.

z26 v1.43 Released
The excellent Atari 2600 emulator z26 was updated to v1.43. Here's what's new:
  • It is no longer possible to generate *impossible* joystick signals such as pressing left and right simultaneously. This prevents some games like Boing from acting weird when this happens.
  • Thanks to Eckhard Stolberg for doing most of the work on this release.
Download it from the Console Emulators section.

Bliss v1.42 Released
The Intellivision emulator that runs on Java was updated to v1.42. This is what you get:
  • Changed input to poll only once per frame. Prior to this change, input was polled every time a game requested the memory location for the hand controllers, which was very inefficient since a few games make that request literally hundreds of times per frame. This may result in a noticeable performance increase for some users in certain games.
  • Fixed lockup that occurred with Windows 2000 after exiting a game.
  • Fixed color palette bugs that appeared on some video cards.
  • Re-fixed the graphics glitch that occurred when screen scrolls in All-Stars Major League Baseball. (Oops)
  • Re-fixed the bug where you couldn't grab the sledgehammer in Donkey Kong. (Double-Oops)
Download it from the Console Emulators section.

  • February 17th, 2001: Mike Coates changed the ASM 68k core to work correctly with encrypted opcodes. Jürgen Buchmüller managed to get the background tiles partially working in the DECO Cassette system driver, but the graphics are still not perfect.
  • February 16th, 2001: David Graves added sprite/tile priority to the Darius driver. Olivier Galibert fixed a bug in palette.c which affected the alpha blending games. Nicola Salmoria fixed the input ports for third and fourth player in the CPS-2 games, fixed the Qsound ROM loading and also fixed Neo Geo games from crashing.
  • February 15th, 2001: Jürgen Buchmüller sent in another DECO Cassette system update with Explorer and Scrum Try, however they are both still missing some graphics. Gerardo Oporto fixed some more Taito drivers' dip switch settings. Luca Elia sent in a driver for Blomby Car. Quench fixed a Twin Cobra driver compilation bug that affected MAME32. Marco Cassili fixed dip switch settings in Chinese Hero.
Check out the screen shots at the above links.

GiriGiri v20010215 Released
The Sega Saturn emulator GiriGiri that plays some commercial games was updated to v20010215. Download it from the Console Emulators section.

Modeler v0.1.1a Released
The Sega Model 1 and System 32 emulator was updated to v0.1.1a. Here's what's new:
    General
    • Disabled debug logging. On systems with slow harddisks this could dramatically slow down the emulator, and it tends to fill up your disk pretty quickly too.
    • Fixed slowdown problem (thanks to Richard Bannister over on the Mac port for the diagnosis).
    • Added "Force 555 video" option. If colors are weird, give it a shot.
    • Another video autodetect fix. This one is believed to work correctly in all cases, including 24 and 32-bit desktops and 555 video cards. (8-bit desktops aren't supported, so don't try ;-)
    Linux-specific
    • Minor changes to sound buffering that should slightly improve quality
Download it from the Arcade Emulators section.

MAME v0.37b12 Fix Released
Seems that MAME v0.37 beta 12 had a few problems, here's what this version fixes:
  • Fixed CPS-2 Qsound ROM loading
  • Fixed the Neo Geo games
  • Fixed critical alpha blending bug
  • Note however that Taito F3 sound and Namco System 2 games are not working in this version.
Download it from the M.A.M.E. section. Fixed i686 and K6 versions are also available.

Final Burn v0.101 Released
Another one of the CPS-2 emulators, Final Burn, was updated to v0.101. This version adds the following:
  • Added support for Aliens Vs. Predator.
  • Changed romset structures to match MAME's. (Most noticeably, sfz.zip has changed to sfa.zip, since Alpha is regarded as the parent set.)
  • Added two new options which allow you to block music or sound effect codes in most games. (Note that some games *may* need to be reset after you change these options e.g. to get rid of pieces of music which are still playing.)
Download it from the Arcade Emulators section.

Friday, February 16th, 2001
Final Burn v0.100 Released
Now the #2 CPS-2 emulator behind MAME, Final Burn, was update today. Here's what's new:
  • Added support for Marvel Super Heroes
  • Added support for Super Street Fighter 2
  • Corrected sprite/layer priority
Download it from the Arcade Emulators section.

CPS-2 Marvel Super Heroes
Yet another CPS-2 game was decrypted, this time it's Marvel Super Heroes. Because of requests and slow speeds of other sites, here are the last several CPS-2 decryption tables:Note that these are NOT the ROMs but simply table files that allow the encrypted ROM's to be unencrypted.

Bliss v1.41 Released
The Java Intellivision emulator Bliss was updated to v1.41. Here's what you get:
  • Added support for Voodoo3/Voodoo2/Banshee video cards. Note that these cards cannot play in a window if the desktop video mode is set to 32-bit color. The drivers for these cards will report that the video mode is not supported and I'm afraid there's just not much that can be done about it. All other modes and 16-bit windowed mode should work fine, however.
  • Added a new video option to turn on bilinear filtering. Just right for that "crappy picture" feel the original Intellivision gave you.
  • Added support for POVs on joysticks and gamepads
  • Added support for loading unknown or new Intellivision ROMs that in the extended Intellicart rom file format.
  • Fixed a bug during input configuration that kept forcing some users to configure the same joystick movement for every input.
  • Fixed the graphics glitches that would occur in All-Stars Major League Baseball when the screen scrolled vertically due to a ball flying into the outfield.
  • Fixed the minor sprite bugs that were in PBA Bowling and Body Slam Super Pro Wrestling. Thanks to Randy Richards for the technical info necessary to make this fix!
  • Fixed the display bugs in Frogger.
  • Fixed the emulation inaccuracy that caused Bliss to fail Test P in the Intellivision Test Cartridge. Bliss now passes all tests this cartridge throws at it.
  • Made several performance improvements. The previous release actually had a performance bug in the input framework (partly because this part of the code is so new) and that performance bug more than negated the performance improvements I had made in the emulation core prior to that release. That's now fixed and several other optimizations have been made. I can guarantee if you were not already running at full speed before that you will get noticably better performance from this release.
Download it from the Console Emulators section.

CPS-2 Alien Vs. Predator Decrypted
Another CPS-2 game was decrypted, this time it's Alien Vs. Predator. Again, because of demand, it's hard to get this file so here it is:Note that this is NOT the ROM but simply a table file that allows the encrypted ROM's to be unencrypted.

Modeler v0.1.1 Released
The arcade emulator Modeler was updated to v0.1.1. Here's what's new:
    General:
    • Yet another attempt at the 555 fix. If it doesn't work please post the contents of the "stdout.txt" file created by the emulator.
    • PCM banking improved. This fixes many missing sound effects in GA2, including the sword swinging and the character select screen noises.
    • Background graphics greatly improved for Sonic. This and other fixes made Arabian Fight about as playable, so I've enabled it.
    • "Disable sound" checkbox added to GUI. Note that sound is used to generate the emulator's timing so the 60 FPS limiter is disabled when sound is off. We'll fix this at some point.
    Win32 specific:
    • DirectSound driver bugfixed, so sound is much clearer now on Win32 for many soundcards (it was fine for me before with SB Live / LiveWare 3.0, but apparently it wasn't for many others). This may also have caused unnecessary slowdowns on some machines.
    • Upgraded to the new SDL 1.1.8, which allows us to enable Sidewinder gamepad support (this was only available on Linux in 0.1.0 and 0.1.0a). The "M" button inserts coins and the "Start" button is player 1 start. You should be able to figure out the rest :-)
Download it from the Arcade Emulators section.

Atari Commercials
RetroBase has released some classic Atari commercials of the past. I've mirrored these commercials locally:You'll need Windows Media Player v6.4 or higher to view these commercials.

MAME WIP for 2/13 & 2/14
MAME WIP news for February the 13th and 14th:
  • February 14th, 2001: Jürgen Buchmüller improved the sound CPU communication in the DECO Cassette system driver and added Boulder Dash - the original version. With Nicola Salmoria's help, he also fixed some 6808 CPU core bugs that prevented Fire Truck from working. Sick
I've been so sick over the last few days that I can hardly stand up. To make things worse, my son had a bad Asthma attack last night and we had to call the ambulance to take him to the hospital. He's fine now, but I was so sick that I felt like I should be admitted to the hospital. We were at the hospital for about 2 hours, but it felt like 12 hours. At least they supplied me with popsicles and apple juice. =) Anyway, I'm feeling about 50% better today and my son is about 100% so things are not too bad.

Final Burn v0.097 Released
Today we were all punished by the author of Final Burn with release v0.097. It seems that he can't handle the popularity and the lamers that go along with it. So, this version REMOVES all CPS-2 support. Mind you, I hate fighting games with a passion and I think all CPS-2 games area a total waste of bandwidth anyway. But, to remove the emulated games just because of a few lamers? Come on, who's being the child now? It's really not a big deal anyway, considering that the difficult part was decrypting the ROMs, not emulating them, so a few other CPS-2 emulators will spring up in Final Burn's place, so this is no big loss. Anyway, here's what else is new:
  • Fixed a memory map bug in the After Burner hardware driver - now Thunder Blade shows more objects (e.g. tanks)
  • Fixed co-ordinate bug on GF hardware. Power Drift road when close up now looks better, and the Galaxy Force bug where targets would flicker to non-existant enemies is gone.
I've left the old version up that plays CPS-2 games. But, if you really want to download this crippled version, download it from the Arcade Emulators section. You may be asking, "Why so bitter?" Simple, I don't like being punished for something I didn't do. And if I do get punished for something I didn't do, it almost makes me want to do deed, then at least the punishment would be justified. So, anyone want the hacked version of Final Burn that plays an additional CPS-2 game? ;-) You can discuss this on the Current Affairs Forum.

NESten v0.61 beta 1 Released
NESten is an excellent Nintendo NES emulator for Windows that hasn't been updated in quite some time. Here's what's new:
  • NOTE: Delete or rename your old version before installing.
  • Rewritten, organized, debugged and verified a lot of the mappers. So a lot of games will have much better support.
  • Mapper interface has been changed totally to be more true to how the NES actually works. An updated SDK will follow.
  • Added UNIF format support. Many new roms will be dumped only in this format since the iNES format only allows a 8 bit mapper number assignment (max 256 different cart types). UNIF does not share this limit. A big thanks to Repulse for creating the format.
  • Added FDS support. This basically means, you can play FDS games. For those of us that don't understand japanese, a game is most likely waiting for you to eject a disk, and insert another one, if it just pauses with some weird charachters. That means, you have to enter the menu, and press eject, then enter menu again, and insert the disk side you think it's requesting :)
  • Added external rendering plugins. What this basically means, is that you can make your own plugin with your own special effects. My default Vid_DirectX.DLL is included with this version, hopefully new plugins will be available via the NESten main page at a later time.
  • Made timing more accurate, but I have not updated both cores to use the new timing, so only the interpretive core is in use.
  • A lot of weird things have been fixed too, hope noone noticed these weird things ;)
  • A problem with DirectSound not being released (IE, Sound in old DOS programs got lost) should be fixed. - Well, fire it up and see if anything else has changed :)
Download it from the Console Emulators section.

Having F.U.N.
Been having TOO much fun adjusting things on the new server to keep up to date with news :( What doesn't help is that yesterday was the busiest day ever for Arcade@Home with over 127,000 unique visitors! That, along with the new XBOX Arcade Trivia Game that's getting about 6,000 page views an hour has put an additional burden on the server. I guess these are good problems to have =) Anyway, we'll be making a few more adjustments later today, but no one should be experiencing any problems at this time and things should be cooking.

It's been a few versions since EMU+ was updated, but Danmanya came through with v0.37 beta 11. Here's what's new:
  • Ok FINALLY I got this done. Mame core changes really messed with me this time as well as lack of free time. Took me 3 betas to fix the external drivers alone :/
  • Added the fixmame and snmame games back in (Updated them to work under 37b11 Thanks SNMAME and FixMAME)
  • Everything is pretty much the same as in beta 8 - Fixed the history.dat/mameinfo.dat display, External Drivers, Autofire, Overclocking on-the-fly, FAQ/NFO support, Category/Version info, Save States, Continuous Save States, Marp Highscore Support, Optimame Extras, Extra Video Modes, Demo Mode, Guihost support, Force16 Display, Sound logging (Certain games), I'm think that's it but can't remember it all check the readme_emu.txt for more info.
  • READ the emuplus.drv file for exactly what that does. I spent a LOT of time making this work again.
  • Fixed the listinfo output for the bios outputs.
  • Fixed the mamemerge/clrmame pro "warnings" about different machines. Games like puzzle bobble and hunchback are no longer clones of different sets so you shouldn't get these warning messages anymore.
  • Removed some of the mamejoy support due to the way mame has added the 2nd mouse support. If you used it and miss it email me and i'll look at readding it.
  • Made the mameinfo.dat have it's own menu pick instead of being incorporated in the history.dat display
  • Compiled with the latest allegro 3.9.34 and this is supposed to fix the sidewinder problems i've heard.
  • Thanks again to all the folks who i've gotten info from. MAME, PacMAME, SNMAME, FixMAME, KBMAME, OCMAME, AFMAME, MameLang32, KBMAME, MAMEJOY, etc, etc, etc... I appreciate the work you all have done and just want people to know... (If I have forgotten anyone it's been a while but thanks again) Read the readme_emu.txt for more credits. Again we all do this for free and have real lives. Saying thanks every now and then doesn't hurt.
  • It's been so long I think that's everything. Remember read the readme_emu.txt and the emuplus.drv files for all the info. Just use it and enjoy.... :)

Final Burn v0.091 Released
Of course, there was a healthy dose of Final Burn releases including support for a new CPS-2 game X-Men!:
  • Added support for X-Men: Children of the Atom (Jpn)
  • Added some sound to the CPS1 games. No ADPCM yet.
  • Added some more analog input options, useful mainly for joypads. So if you have a joypad, try "J1 Normal Slider" for After Burner and Rail Chase, and "J1 Centering Slider" for Power Drift, Galaxy Force and Out Run. If you have an analog joystick, try "J1 Absolute".
  • Added auto-saving for the volatile memory in the Sega games as well (if bDrvSaveAll is 1 of course)
  • Added a Title switch for VSav - just affects the graphic after you insert coin (0=Vampire Savior, 1=Darkstalkers...)
  • Dip switches can now be changed from the emu while the game is running. Double-click on the dip switch in the input menu, and change the value. Changes happen straight away. Very useful! (Some game options may need the game to be reset to take effect though.)
  • Reading input every frame is now optional (bReadInputEveryFrame in finalburn.ini) Default is on.
  • Fixed the problem with the sprites on the Ice on the Beach stage.
  • Fixed the problem with the Capcom/Ryu shadow screen
  • But haven't fixed anything else yet (e.g. the X after-fight screen or the one-frame QSound glitch)

Server Move
Ouch, that server move really hurt. =) Note to myself, don't try to move 50 servers on a weekend, it won't work. Anyway, things will be getting back to normal in the next day or two.
