Emu Idiots
Okay, this is my new favorite emulation site. I'm sure that some sites won't link to this site because they make fun of everyone in the
emulation community (myself included). But, I think it's funny as H.E. double hockey sticks. Check it out at the above link.

SSF v0.06 Prototype Released

Meka v0.57b Released
The excellent Sega GameGear/SMS emulator Meka was updated to v0.57b. Here's what's new:
- Various minor fixes and improvements.
- Fixed startup delay (and sometimes crash) when autodetecting Sidewinders.
- Fixed and improved the new dynamic palette handler, avoiding palettes overflow on some Game Gear games such as Sonic & Tails 2 / Triple Trouble, Sonic 1 or Deep Duck Trouble. The fourth level of Sonic 1 is however not yet perfect when both air and water are shown on screen. Thanks to ICEknight for pointing the bug out.
- Made various clean and corrections to the main sound engine structure. It should not have broken anything, but please report if you notice something unusual. Noticable changes are that:
- MEKA refuse to start if sound initialization has failed.
- Sound is now muted while certain long operations are being processed.
- Sound card type is not lost if you only disable sound.
- An incorrect BLASTER environnement variable is now reported.
- Added an algorithm to automatically detect certain mappers and select them when the ROM is unknown.
- Fixed vertical scrolling emulation in certain special cases.
- Fixed zoomed sprites in SMS/GG video mode. They were accidentally screwed up by a typo (!) in previous version, and affected Virtua Fighter Mini.
- Fixed a bug with checksum handling. In some cases, ROMs with only a few different bytes were previously not recognized as different.
- Fixed usage of the ';' key in the input system (now usable), previously the character was considered as beginning a comment in MEKA.INP.
- Fullscreen messages are now correctly displayed when the current emulated system uses a resolution higher than your fullscreen resolution.
- Fixed debugger breakpoint when loading a save state.
- Added some new entrys to the checksum and compatibility lists, and fixed few existing ones. Added a french flag, currently used for games translated in french.
When it rains it pours. Download it from the Console Emulators section.
Kawaks v1.07 Released
Another CPS-2 emulator, Kawaks, was updated to v1.07 as well. Here's what's new:
- Region switches for Street Fighter Zero CPS Changer and Pnickies
- YM2151 logging. Logs to Callus style CYM file. Works better if enabled from the start of the game (before pressing Enter, after loading)
- Changed the balance so OKI is louder compared to YM2151 (clearly, better CPS1 sound :P)
- Cleaned the startup code. May fix some crashing issues...
- New windowed mode features: 1) Tab shows/hides the menu bar 2) Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2, Ctrl+3 resize the window to 100%, 200%, 300%
- Added a DirectX check. DirectX is needed for Kawaks to run. If you don't have DirectX, Kawaks will display an error and quit cleanly. (you can't imagine all the "bug reports" I get from people who don't have DX installed...)
- Alien vs. Predator (Euro 940520)
- Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha (Japan 960805)
Download it from the Arcade Emulators section.
Nebula v1.5 Released
Nebula was updated to support the latest two CPS-2 games that were dumped. Here's what you get:
- Added CPS1 support. Not all games have been added yet. Note that you CAN'T add CPS1 games via dat files.
- Written a new sprite graphics code that correctly handles the sprite priorities and sprite masking (this code is disabled by default as it's slower, enable it in NEBULA.INI).
- Added some tricks to emulate the sprite masking with the old (and faster) gfx code, note that this code is disabled by default (see NEBULA.INI) due to problems in some games (morrigan in vsav).
- Added a NEBULA.INI file with special configurations (read this file to know the things you can configure).
- Added skin selector in the OTHER menu (skins must be in the SKINS\ directory). The name displayed is the name of the .zip or .dat file containing the skin. You can use long filenames (but not very long, 20 char max).
- Support for up to 10 different ROM directories.
- Support for skins in zip files.
- Fixed the bug that truncated skins files to 512KB.
- Added a pink background option in the Shots factory.
- Too many internal changes that I can't remember.
Download it from the Arcade Emulators section.
Two New CPS-2 Games Dumped
Two new CPS-2 games were dumped today. This time it's Alien vs. Predator (Euro) and Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha (JPN). Here's the
decryption table:Note that these are NOT the ROMs but simply XOR tables that allow the encrypted ROMs to be unencrypted.

ePSXe v1.4.0 Released
The very good Sony PlayStation emulator ePSXe has been updated to v1.4.0. Here's a short list of what's new:
- Included a new wizard guided config which should help new users configure the emulator
- Added preliminary support for netplay plugins. (Cyberpad)
- Included support for a new feature included in the video plugins, it now shows a mini-picture from the savestates when you use the F2 key to increase the selected save slot. (It works only with savestates done with the version 1.4.0 or superior)
- Fixes to the CD-Rom decoder and the core, which make some more games playable like for example Incredible Crisis, Simpsons Wresting, Threads of fate, Tomb Raider I and II (pal), Fighting Force 2 and so on ;)
Download it from the PlayStation section.
Fewer Pop-ups
I was able to filter out some of the more annoying pop-up ads from the rotation. The ones that are running at this point should be much
better and you should see far fewer pop-ups as well. I'm still working on something that would allow you to get rid of all pop-ups and
banner ads, but I've been too busy with real life stuff to finish it. I hope to be done with it this week, but it depends on if work and
family will let me.

- Fixed VRC6 sound output again (added timestamp, works much better);
- Fixed ppu mirroring restoration on state loading (.RSx files);
- Fixed another bug on state loading (bad CHR?);
- Fixed color emphasis reset (thanks Alexandre);
- Added pAPU (sound) state saving (+VRC6);
- Added that old pop-up message system (old request, ok);
- Added SuperEAGLE/Super2xSaI engines (*warning: preliminary and _very slow_ even in a p800 (!), so take care... weird GUI colors too, I know why...);
- Function keys (F1-F12) does not freeze the emulator anymore;
- Removed that PPU timing hack;
- A lot of cleanups and minor bugs squashed.
Download it from the Console Emulators section.

Kawaks v1.06 Released
The CPS-2 emulator Kawaks was updated to v1.06. Here's what's new:
- Fix for Mercs' backgrounds.
- Added Forgotten Worlds (USA)
- Added Lost Worlds (Japan)
- Strider starts, now. Still will freeze after title screen, of after you try starting a new game. Odd, that game used to work in old versions...
- Pixel format autodetection. No need to mess with INI anymore.
- Kawaks will now refuse to run if you are not using a 16bits or 32bits desktop palette, since those are the only one supported at the moment.
- Kawaks will now refuse to switch to fullscreen if the video mode specified in the ini is to small for the game screen to fit.
- Fixed another S3/S4, which affected Double mode, with no 50% scanlines. I expect diplay to be correct for everyone now.
- New autoframeskip code. Should perform a lot better on slower machines
- CPS1 sound ! Yup, that's right. But YM2151 (that's music) requires a good CPU.
- Options to enable/disable OKIM6295 and/or YM2151
- Changed many things in the menus. "Emulation" menu was getting too crowded.
- Added a 4th rompath (requested by someone. Don't ask a 5th one however)
- Changed the way the "This is a cps2 only feature" message is displayed when you try to save/load state with a CPS1 game: If you are playing, the message will appear in the game area instead of poping up that annoying message box
- Enter/Enter Sound glitch should be VERY rare now. If you have a very slow PC and still experience choppyness, I included a setting to control the sound buffer size in the INI. You may want to fiddle with it. Slower PCs may have luck increasing it.
Download it from the Arcade Emulators section.
DNS Changes
The domain name server changes should be working now for most people and I just fixed the downloads (they were busted for unknown reasons).
I was out of town so I couldn't get them working from my laptop. Anyway, it's fixed and we are not closed as some sites reported.

Raine32 v0.32 Released
The excellent arcade emulator Raine32 was updated to v0.32. In the middle of a 200k file you
can find out what's new in this release or read it out here:
- Added more than 85 cps1 games and clones. Qsound games have no sound for now (wof, dino, punisher, slam masters, and mbomber).
- Full mame compatibility for the hiscore.dat file. You can now grab a hiscore.dat from mame, and put it directly in the raine directory !
- Made the gui "16bpp friendly" : it is now much faster in 16bpp. And added a new file selector...
- The windows version of raine is now much more stable !!!
Download it from the Arcade Emulators section.
DNS Problems
Looks like my old DNS servers bit the dust today. I've been meaning to change DNS servers for
some time, but didn't want to cause any problems so I put it off. Well, this is a prefect time
to make those changes =) Anyway, if you're reading this, your DNS servers have been updated.
I don't expect to make any more DNS for a VERY long time =)
retoDrive Release 2
The newer Sega Genesis/32X emulator retroDrive had its second release. This version has a new emulation core which drives the entire
emulator. This results in much better timing and synchronization amongst the various hardware components and improves the emulation speed.
Several bugs were also fixed (like Contra not scrolling).
Download it from the Console Emulators section.
Yawn
Man, it's been a boring week in emulation. Not a lot of news worthly things to mention. I've heard that a new Raine is supposed to be
released today, but we'll see.

Kawaks v1.05 Released
If you wanna play CPS-2 Armored Warriors you'll need an emulator that supports it. Kawaks is that emulator and a very good one at that.
It also adds a healthy set of features to this release:
- In the sprite system. Fix for some PGear bugs.
- In the layer system. Fix for Ring of Destructions backgrounds. Fix for a small XvSF attract demo glitch.
- In the palette system. Fix for flash intros before fight in SFA2, and SSF2 attract demo.
- General fixes in CPS1 driver. All SF2s should run like a charm now :)
- Added dummy driver for main parents of games that do not have their main set emulated (ex, sfa3 for sfz3). Generates better RomCenter DAT.
- CPS1 games play with Allow Continue ON, Free Play ON and Demo Sounds ON. (Does not affect CPS1 games with EEPROM, like Punisher, WoF and Dino)
- Sound in QSound CPS1 games (that's Warriors of Fate, Punisher and Cadillac & Dinosaurs), thanks to MZ80 hack by ElSemi.
- Started work on "regular" CPS1 sound. CPS1 games now have their Z80 running (preliminary mapper). (No sound output yet, however)
- Upgraded to Genital68k 0.40. Fixes DDSOM's continue countdown.
- New drivers: Armoured Warriors (US 941024)
- New drivers: Street Fighter Zero - CPS Changer (Japan 951020)
- New drivers: Tenchi wo Kurau (Japan) (Dynasty Wars Japan, CPS1)
- Sorted game list a tad :)
- Sprites Table module works with CPS1 too, now.
- Full support for CPS1's BgHi. This fixes all priority errors in CPS1 games :)
- Those without a sound card should be able to use Kawaks now (if NoSound is set to 1 in INI, no DirectSound initialisation occurs)
- Hopefully fixed bugs with S3/S4 video cards, and others that don't use a standard video pitch. Untested, since my own video cards act 'normally'
- Joypad supported in Redefine keys dialog box.
Download it from the Arcade Emulators section.
CPS-2 Armored Warriors
Another CPS-2 game was dumped. This time it's Armored Warriors (USA). Here's the decryption table:Note that this is NOT the ROM but simply the XOR table that allow the encrypted ROM to be unencrypted. Also, the Nebula ROM dats

ClrMamePro v2.15 Released
The MAME ROM manager ClrMamePro was updated to v2.15. Here's what's new:
- added: optional full-zip-integrity scan mode. This will be able to find corrupt zipfiles (inflate errors or bad compressed data crc32 errors). This scan mode is very slow ! Errors are listed in the Warnings-Window. Inflate or crc32 errors means that the zipfile is corrupt. You have to replace it ! Normally ClrMamePro only does a quick crc32 compare and can't find and list such zip-internal errors. This option is similar to a PKUNZIP/Winzip TEST operation.
- added: alternative method to receive data from a binary (now everybody should be able to receive data. You can switch between the old and the new method. The cap.exe file is part of this new method. It will be called by ClrMamePro and can't be used separately.
- fixed: "savemissing list"'s -stop button didn't stop.
- fixed: "popup menu" doesn't show the correct foldername.
- fixed: Clone-color is lost when using hide/show options.
- fixed: Reloading romdata, when disabling 'start with profiler' and reentering the profiler directly after that. bah...minor thing :o)
- misc: Profiler window position will be stored.
- misc: No more rebuilder file-rename problems when using unzipped files.
- misc: Warning message when no paths are set.
- removed: Zipcache options. They caused rare major zipproblems on some systems.

Kawaks v1.03 Released
The latest CPS-2/CPS-1 emulator gets another update. Here's what's new:
- Rom loading by CRC. First tries to locate a file that has a good CRC32.
- Fixed some issues about RomCenter DAT generation. Still not 100% correct however.
- Kileed DX 8 code. Kawaks runs with regular dinput.dll now. And DX7 or less maybe.
- You can back out from fullscreen with ESCAPE.
- Added OK/Cancel buttons to Load game dialog box.
- Fixed CPS1 Z80 ROM sizes. Actually saves a little RAM for those games too.
- Much improved sprites/background synchronisation. Remaining glitches are likely to be a CPU timing issue.
- Fixed CPU timing for CPS1 games. They now run smoooooth :)
- Joypad support ! Until I remake the Refine keys box, you'll have to configure your joypad yourself in the games' ini. Flame me. See the release notes for more info.
- Not using font from loaded game anymore for on screen display. This build uses a fixed XVSF font for every game. This fixes on screen display for CPS1 games, which don't have a fixed font like CPS2 games do. Also allowed to generate a much more readable palette.
- Added 1 frame of sprite lag for CPS1 games. Sprites move in sync

Thanks to Don Roberts for this news from DigitalCity: Washington, DC:
President Bush signed the the recently passed tax cut bill into law Thursday and Friday the federal government announced when taxpayers will start getting the refund checks called for in the tax cut package. Checks will be mailed on ten consecutive Mondays beginning on July 23rd and ending on September 24th. The mailing date is based on the last two digits of Social Security numbers. Social Security numbers with final digits between 00 and 09 will be sent on July 23rd. On July 30th, Social Security numbers with final digits between 10 and 19 will be mailed. The process will continue until Social Security numbers with final digits between 90 and 99 are mailed on September 24th.

Infogrames is now Atari?
Back on December 6th, 2000 Infogrames announced the purchase of Hasbro Interactive that included Atari. Now it seems that Infogrames may
be dumping their name in favor of Atari which is larger brand name. Here's a quote from the
Atari Historical Society:
Sources indicate that the decision was made due to the lack of awareness in some global territories of the existing Infogrames brand, and that the
head of Infogrames, Bruno Bonnell (Chairman & CEO) was very aware that the Atari brand would be a stronger and more recognisable asset for the company.
I tend to agree that the Atari brand is more well known than Infogrames. Maybe not to the younger kids, but to the 30 year old
kids for sure =) It's a rumor right now, but if it turns out to be true, it will be great to see the Atari logo on future PS2 and Xbox
games. Check out the full text at the title link. Thanks to John H for the news.
