NeoGeoCD v0.4.6 Released
The NeoGeo CD emulator that gets updated almost every day and has only grown 3k in size over the last 30 releases was updated to v0.4.6. For the most part, I've stopped posting about this emulator (even though I update it on the download page). It appears (based on the fact that the emulator has only gained 3k in the last 30 releases) that each update doesn't do much. You may also want to check out an emulator like Nebula which also does NeoGeo CD emulation. Anyway, if you're interested in this emulator, download it from the Console Emulators section.

bleem! RIP
It seems that the commercial emulator bleem! has finally reached it's end. Some may blame the demise of bleem! on the broken promises, lack of updates, and slow delivery. However, one must consider the resources and time that they spent fighting a huge company, Sony, almost from the beginning till the end. Many larger companies with stronger products would have folded under that kind of pressure. bleem! was as much a story of the little emulation company taking on a global corporate giant as it was a emulator. I for one, will miss bleem!, not so much for their product, but more so for their fight. I'll retire my bleem! t-shirt along side my Atari and Sublogic ones. Thanks to HJC for the news.

Flight 587 Crashes in New York American Airlines flight 587 from JFK to Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic, an Airbus A300, crashed into Queens, New York. UMAMEW Violation?
I'm not sure how reliable my sources are, but I've been told that UMAMEW somehow violates the MAME license agreement. I haven't received an e-mail from Nicola stating this, but I've taken the file off-line till I get confirmation. Of course, if I can't confirm it, I'll re-add the emulator. What's troubling is that I heard the MAME development team was going nuts about this, but never bothered to e-mail me. This may sound odd to most people, but sadly it's par for the course. Anyway, we'll see what the deal is and if it really does violate the MAME license. I'm guessing that it enabled some game that you were not supposed to turn on. However, without searching through literally thousands of source files, there's no way to know which games are off-limits. If this is the issue, I suggest they list the games in the license agreement which are off limits. As it is today, there's no reasonable way for people to know without having to search through millions of lines of code to find out (which isn't realistic).

This excellent Sega Genesis and Sega CD emulator was updated to v1.30 and includes the following:
    [SEGA CD]
    • Added the possibility to choose a perfect synchronisation emulation mode. (This means that main CPU and sub CPU execute instruction by instruction then emulation is more accurate but a lot slower. This option is desactivated by default, you can enable it when you're playing a Sega CD game but it's highly recommend to use it only if the game doesn't work in normal emulation mode and if your CPU is fast (>= 500 Mhz).)
    • Fixed a (stupid) bug in the GFX rotation/scaling engine.
    • Fixed Word RAM decoded format (dot GFX conversion).
    • Added CELL GFX conversion.
    • CDC -> PCM RAM DMA fixed.
    • CDD and CDC emulation improved.
    • Fixed the memory control register (not yet perfect).
    • Fixed a bug in the "Font Data" calculation.
    • Fixed a bug with PCM sound.
    • Fixed severals bugs in the MP3 decoder and streaming code.
    • Some others minors bugs fixed...
    [GENESIS]
    • YM2612 emulator upgraded to the last version, FM sound is a bit better.
    • CGOffline support added.
    [GENERAL]
    • All specials renders modes (Scanlines, 2xSAI ...) are now as fast in windowed mode than in fullscreen mode.
    • Better sound volume adjustement between all differents sound chips.

More Server Updates
You may have noticed we were down for about an hour on Tuesday evening and there's been a few 5 minute outages as well. On the heals of last week's bandwidth update, I doubled the RAM on the server and Arcade@Home now has 100GB of hard drive space. So in the last week I've doubled the bandwidth, doubled the RAM, and the drive space has increased 5.5 times! The server's running like a dream now and it should be able to handle our high growth rate for several months. If you notice things go down for a few minutes, it's probably just me fine-tuning things. If you see something broken, by all means e-mail me.

Kawaks v1.34 Released
The CPS-2 emulator Kawaks was updated again and includes the following new additions:
  • New games supported:
    • Ganryu
    • Nightmare in the Dark
    • Strikers 1945+
    • Prehistoric Isle 2
  • Alpha Mission 2 romset has changed to match the latest MAME
  • Changed The King of Fighters '99: Millennium Battle so it uses the real encrypted gfx roms. This is the standard MAME set, with encrypted roms, encrypted Ps, no S1, the standard Vs This has the inconvenient of making load times a LOT longer for people who have 128mb of RAM or less, so I added a new subset of kof99: "The King of Fighters '99: Millennium Battle (full decrypted)" (kof99nd.zip) which is exactly the same game, but uses different roms, requires significantly less ram, and loads really faster. It uses:
    • kf99p_c*.rom from the prototype (this makes NO difference game wise compared to using the real encrypted roms)
    • kf99_s1d.rom which was released some time ago
    • kof99_v*.rom and kof99_m1.rom from kof99.zip
    • kf99n_p1.rom and kf99n_p2.rom from the new kof99n.zip from MAME 0.56 That gives a simple standard NeoGeo set, gamewise identical to the big encrypted one, that could even run in NeoRAGE X :)
  • Fixed a bug where tick marks in the menus where cleared by changing the video memory settings from the menu or on the first launch
Download it from the Arcade Emulators section.
