Video Games Banned in Greece
Thanks to Capt.Capcom for the news!!
There's a report at GameSpyDaily today about a controversial new law in Greece. In an attempt to crack down on gambling, the government has banned all forms of interactive entertainment, in both public and private places. Video games fall under the category of interactive entertainment, and many Greek gamers are protesting this law, saying that it's too extreme for a democratic nation. Read the story at the above link.

Project64 v1.5 Released (FINAL !!!!)
YES !! finally, the greatest and best n64 emulator, project 64 has been updated.. btw: AND this will be the final release, yes..sad indeed, but lets enjoy our final emulator and last this enternal. Anyway..Here's whats new:
  • Some of the original Project64 team have got together with the 1.5b1 team to make v1.5 (final i.e. non-'beta'). See the whatsnew.txt included for some details. Credit for this release goes to Tooie, Jabo, Witten, myself, Gent, Radeon, Azimer and everyone and anyone else whose work is in there. Can I draw attention to some fine Project64 spec. plugins now available, in particular Glide64 for 3dfx hardware and Azimer's HLE audio for slower CPUs, and to new subdomain support.pj64.net. Less good news for you: at this time some of us will be taking a break and there are no plans for another release (really, this takes care of just about everything the original team wanted). I remind other websites to please distribute Project64 complete and unaltered. No new source is available at this time. Other than that... v1.5 is on the download page, it was a lot of work, hope you like it.

VBSpec updated
Thanks To IJTF_Cinder for the news!!
VBSpec, the Sinclair ZX-Spectrum emulator has been updated today..Here's the changes:
  • Added support for loading TZX files, as submitted by Mark Woodmass.
  • Added a simple TZX tape interface.
  • Fixed a very minor bug in the LDIR/LDDR support (the undocumented flag bits 3 and 5 where not updated properly by these opcodes).
  • Fixed a minor bug in the CALL xx,nn opcodes (return address was being pushed onto the stack after the CALL was actioned, which caused problems in some obscure self-modifying code). Bug identified and fixed by Mark Woodmass.
  • Improved the accuracy of the TC2048 keyboard emulation (the TC2048's compatibility problems with games such as Uridium are now correctly emulated!). Thanks to Fredrick Meunier for the description of the TC2048 keyboard port.

z26 v1.57 Released
The great olde Atari 2600 Emulator has been updated today..Here's whats new:
  • Support for interlaced 2600 games. To turn on interlace mode there is a new interlace command line switch. To draw even lines first use -! or -!0. To draw odd lines first use -!1. I think -! is probably correct for the current games and demos. If the interlace command line switch is enabled, the emu automatically starts up in video mode 6. To see what the non-interlaced view looks like, just switch to another video mode. If you don't like to see flicker don't turn on the -e command line switch. If you like to see a more authentic flicker use the -e command line switch.
  • Support for the Snow White proto.
  • Thanks to Billy Eno for the first working interlaced demo. Thanks to Eckhard Stolberg for help with the software support.

SegaNet is Free
Thanks To l606s for the news !!
Here's what he said:
SegaNet servers free for rest of 2002
It appears that Sega announced on August 1st that they are discontinuing their Dreamcast subscription service and, until the end of 2002, the SegaNet servers will be available to all online gamers. I've never personally used it myself, but those of you that want to play online that missed this announcement may want to check it out. Basically, it is unlimited head-to-head online gameplay via SegaNet through the end of 2002.
After that, Sega will shift their online focus to other platforms -- and will start shutting down the DC servers... P.S. Note that PSOv2 is stil pay-to-play. It is the exception.

    Emu Loader v3.1 "Turbo" Released
The frontend for MAME (DOS port), Emu Loader, has been updated today..Here's whats new:
    • "Virtual Mode" on games list is finally implemented The loading time of games (~3500) will take about 0.200 to 1.5 seconds max! (it depends on computer's speed). This is based on a Pentium III 500MHz (Katmai FSB 100MHz). Many thanks to AzzaAzza69 for helping me to figure out how to implement the virtual mode
    • Important notes, please read them carefully:
      • 1. If Parental Lock is activated it will take longer to load games
      • 2. If Real Icons is activated, it will take longer to load games (just a little bit, like 0.65 seconds, hehe)
      • 3. When switching between games filters, the status window doesn't appear anymore. Instead, the mouse cursor changes, showing the Hour Glass while loading the new filter
      • The following features / options were removed from Emu Loader:
        • Game Sound Clips is completely removed due to problems with DirectX8 headers for Delphi
        • Go to Selected Game's Homepage (not needed anymore)
        • Disable Windows Access (didn't worked anyway)
        • Games Hot Track
        • Games Hand Point
        • Non-Working Icon (new handling due to new virtual mode)
        • Games List Wallpaper
        • Remember Sorted Column
        • Column to Sort at startup
        • Sort Direction at startup
        • Game Filter "Show Working Games"
        • Game Filter "show Non-Working Games"
        • Show Picture Info
      • All games with a preliminary driver, now will be grayed out, and with a strike out font
      • New Option: Show Preliminary Games Disabled This option works with the above feature. It toggles the games with preliminary driver enabled / disabled with a strike out font
      • In-Game Snapshots folder is removed from MAME Extended Options screen This folder is now loaded from the snapshot_directory entry of mame.ini file. This means that the in-game snapshot folder can be different for every M.A.M.E. binary you select :-)
      • Added a new drop-down button on the buttons toolbar, with a list of all available Keys Mapping files, found on M.A.M.E. ctrlr folder Now you can quickly select the keys config
      • Note:
      • 1. The list changes for every M.A.M.E. binary you select
      • 2. Selecting the (Default) option, EL will load the keys mapping from mame.ini file
      • Keys Mapping drop-down button added in User Profile Editor screen
      • The games mode views are now available when in favorites lists mode, thanks to the virtual mode (Big Icons, Small Icons, List and Details buttons)
      • Category and Version Added columns are now updated when refreshing the games list
      • Added an option to change the background color on the Automatic Game Information box The picture filename info is now on the picture's hint
      • Added the General Background Color option again This time, this option is 100% optimized If you're using WinXP with themes enabled this option forces the "BtnFace" color (default window color)

    Meka 0.63 Released
The Sega Master System / Game Gear emulator (Win/DOS) ,Meka, has been updated today..The author has made enough great fixes that he thought a release is good to go but only for registered users now...The public version is on delay.. Meka is capable of emulating the Game Gear, Master System, SC-1000, Sega Mark III (+ FM Unit), SC-3000, Colecovision and Othello Multivision machines...Here's what the author said:
    • Implemented a cyclic color allocation algorythm, reducing palette changes even more in some games. Users with videocard/drivers having problems changing palette can expect less slowdown in Game Gear games.
    • Tested every single Master System games, and wrote a multiplayer games list out of them. It is included in the emulator (MULTI.TXT).
    • Added 21 missing undocumented Z80 opcodes in the ED instruction set, including the wonderful OUT (A), 0.
    • Fixed PSG emulation. The holding note after text boxes shows in "Alex Kidd in Miracle World" is no more, and noise channel writes were fixed (as used by CodeMasters games: Micro Machines drums now sounds correctly, etc...). Thanks to the great Maxim for his informations!
    • Fixed Light Phaser shooting position for when left column blanking is enabled (a bug leaked in since a few version).
    • Fixed 64-bytes ROM footer detection.
    • Fixed a bug affecting Hardware Reset and ROM reloading on SG-1000/SC-3000 and Colecovision emulation. As far as I know, only "Pac-Man" (Coleco) was affected after an Hardware Reset, but other ROMs could as well. Thanks to James Carter for the bug report.
    • Fixed a two-years-old bug that may lead MEKA to crash when loading a savestate that was previously used under the debugger.
    • Fixed Sega Keyboard mapping for the unusual "Pi" / "Ro" key, so Japanese users can use it at its standard mapping location. Thanks to Yujiro for the bug report.
    • FPS Counter is now enabled/disabled by pressing Alt+F, instead of keeping F pressed.
    • [Windows] Fixed time display.
    • Updated to newer GCC version, hopefully little improving performances.
    • Added and modified entries to the checksum and compatibility lists.
    • Some interesting ones I could rename after redumping:
      • Alex Kidd in Miracle World [A] --> Alex Kidd in Miracle World [Export]
      • Alex Kidd in Miracle World [B] --> Alex Kidd in Miracle World [USA]

    DaemonTools V3.17 Released
Anywho..the utility for the PSX Emulators, DaemonTools(emulates a CD-Drive), has been updated today...Here's what the author said:
    • This new version of DAEMON Tools can perfectly emulate new generation of protections based on measurement of the physical CD media parameters (CDCOPS©, VOB ProtectCD 5©, latest SecuRom© etc.). In fact we were ready for such emulation about half a year ago, but such emulation also required creation of new image format capable to hold additional information (not only pure data and subchannel). Such image format became MDS (Media Descriptor) previously natively used in FantomCD.
    • As you know DAEMON Tools has no own dumping engine, but soon some programs will appear on the market that will be able to create MDS-images of CDs with these protections automatically! Nevertheless, as you surely don't want to wait until then we decided to release current version of DAEMON Tools having its full new emulation power included! We also provide some prebuilt MDS-files on our page for some well-known games recently released with the protections mentioned above.
    • These MDS-files (only a few KB each) will allow you to play the corresponding games from DAEMON Tools virtual drive right NOW - without having to wait for new commercial programss that will create MDS-images containing the needed infos automatically.

The unofficial MAME version based on MAME / MAME32 emulator(WIN), MAME32 plus has been updated today...Here's whats new :
    • added SuperScale effect by Elsemi from Nebula plugin source and Eagle graphics filter by Dirk Stevens, 16 bit ONLY [K&K]. FYI, right here :
      • Dirk Stevens' Eagle
      • Kreed's SuperEagle
      • Kreed's 2xSaI
      • Kreed's Super 2xSaI

      • ElSemi's SuperScale

    Pete's GPU Plugins V1.65 Released
The video plugins for the PSX emulators that use the PSEmu Pro Plugin system (win/linux), Petes GPU Plugins, have been updated today.....Here's whats new :
    • Many users reported me wrong black areas in certain NTSC games. Thanx to Cobra95, by using his Spyro3 save state I was able to investigate and fix that issue.
    • Lewpy suggested a small trick to prevent FF9 from crashing when framebuffer access is activated. I have followed his suggestions, but still I advise NOT to use the FA options with that game (it will not crash anymore, but glitches in battle will happen). Well, it's up to you :)
    • I've removed the "FF9 mdec mask bit" special game fix, hopefully now all mdec polygons and mdec texts will be fine without. Thanks to Dimitri for reports and Yazoo for his save state.
    • Since Lewpy did a very nice dynamic loading of the kernel funcs for disabling screensavers/power saving modes in the P.E.Op.S. soft gpu plugin, I couldn't find any more reasons against a 'disable screensavers' option (without Lewpy's piece of code such an option would have crashed with Win95/WinNT in the past). So, if you were tormented by suddenly starting screen savers while playing a psx game before, you can now easily disable them in the gpu configs.
    • I've found a small bug in the D3D plugins with the "Unfiltered frame- buffer updates - faster mdecs" option. I don't know what games suffered by that bug, but I've decided to fix it nonetheless ;) Oh, btw, I did notice that this option does not (and never will) work right with emulating the psx mask bit. So, if you are seeing flickering displays, or missing stuff, try to turn that D3D option off (OpenGL will always be ok, though).
    • Finally I was able to find out what was going wrong with the 'Monkey Hero' game (that one was really messed up with all of my gpu plugins), and yeah, I've fixed it. Will be interesting to see what other games will also run better because of the fix (and I hope that speed will not drop much because of it... at least on my system I didn't notice any slowdowns).

    E V O L U T I O N 2000
This year, Shoryuken's national tournament left the area of Folsom ,CA.(Where "B5" were held),and this time..the action will be held downtown of Los Angeles, CA. Last year was indeed a rough competetion between the East and West Coast, Japnese players were invloved as well. This time..everyone across the world will attend this once in a year time tournament. Each year the tournament has expanded its reach, attracting the very best players from around the globe. Competitors last year hailed from the US, Canada, Europe, Kuwait, Australia, and Japan. Evolution 2002 is the only tournament that pits these players directly against each other, to see which single player will come out on top. Evolution 2002 will feature intense game tournaments across an array of favorite Street Fighter games. The exact tournaments are still being decided. Because of the high number of players attending, SRK(shoryuken) do not want to exceed 4 tournaments. At this point Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 are locks, but the rest depends on Capcom's release schedule. For instance, if Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was releasted tomorrow, it would obviously bump off one of the other tournaments. Other games we are considering at this point include Super Turbo, Alpha 3, and any spring/early summer Capcom game releases**. SRK also considering supplemental formats like a CvS2 team tournament.
Start planning NOW to catch all the action and take your place alongside the true world warriors.
This is where the legends are born. Old-school? New-school? Doesn't matter. It's time to put the hype down, and your fists up. Because Evolution is all about the basics: Fight. Survive. Win.

    Hu-Go! v2.09 Released
The vintage PC-Engine Emulator for Windows, Hu-Go, has been updated today....Here's Whats New:
    • This version features a total SDL emu with reenabling of the main features that I had to disable for the 2.08 alpha version (I'm thinking to sound and cd support). This release also got a much improved synchronization engine, so you will be able to play more than 3 seconds before dying on Super Star Soldier, for example. I haven't tested much but I guess that Cds intros will be much more accurate than they used to. The next version will focus more on user interfacing and plugin development for helping translation and miscelaneous hacking projects which are growing around You may also have noticed that the site wasn't available for the previous days, it was simply a physical move of the server hard disks which took longer than scheduled. As for other emulation related projects, I was thinking of something which could help hugo being written more cleanly and which could lead to a pc-fx emulator later.
    • Not much news about HuC, which is showing its maturity through the various projects using it, notably implode, which is going to become the NEWEST COMMERCIAL GAME for pc engine. Cheers to Bt Garner who is the "culprit". Don't forget to buy yours as soon as it will be available and refrain the piracy (excepted if you like to ransack the pc engine scene and prevent other games from appearing).
