Meka V0.64 Released
The multi-machine emulator(capable of emulating the Master System, Game Gear, SC-1000, SC-3000, Sega Mark III(+ FM Unit), Colecovision , Othello Multivision systems) has been updated once again... Here's the following changes:
  • Important changes were applied to the sound engine. As always, please contact me if notice something unusual, if you have any comment or doubt.
  • PSG fixes that were applied in version 0.63 are apparently causing a bug to Out Run (SMS) running in FM mode. I searched but was unable to fix it as of yet. :(
  • Cleaned and modified various part of the sound engine. Please report if you notice anything unusual.
  • [Windows] Disabled access to hardware YM-2413 emulation using OPL under Windows 2000 and XP, avoiding crashes in certain cases... Well, this time it should works :-)
  • [Windows] FM Sound through OPL is now muted when switching to other applications. PSG can not muted yet due to a technical constraint.
  • Fixed muting of OPL on pause and quit (previously you were sometimes able to hear very low hanging notes with a very high volume).
  • Implemented software YM-2413 emulator by Mitsutaka Okazaki. Although hardware YM-2413 emulation using OPL sounds cooler, this emulator seems more faithful to the original chipset. It also works on all systems, including Windows 2000 and XP. The downside is that doing software synthesis takes a lot of time, and thus a fast computer is recommended (at least 600 Mhz) to play MEKA with software YM-2413 emulation.
  • Implemented a new software PSG emulator by Maxim (with modifications). PSG emulation is pretty straightforward, but this emulator takes account of several Maxim finds, such as the real sequence of pseudo random numbers, as generated by the noise channel.
  • Added refresh rate settings to GUI and Blitters. An advanced user can now setup a video mode at 60 Hz with vsync enabled and auto frame skipping disabled, for a smooth video refresh.
  • Fixed PSG output that was previously too low and unsigned.
  • [Windows] Attempted to fix some crashes subsequent to freeing a ROM.
  • Added entries to the checksum and compatibility lists.
  • Updated documentation.

Kega Lazarus Released
As Most of you now know SteveSnake suffered a hard drive crash a good while ago, taking the Kega source with it. And His Most Recent Backup Was of v0.02... Now all though this is a new version it may still contain bugs that have been since fixed in later versions that he forgot about. So If you do download this version keep both this version and v0.04b. And just so this is clear, Lazarus is NOT considered a major release! But a "test bed" to take Sega CD emulation to the next level. Heres What Snake said on the Kega messageboard:
  • SMS/GG
    • emulation should be much improved, and backup RAM now should work. Wohoo! Phantasy Star :) As far as I know there is nothing missing/wrong with SMS/GG emulation now. If you know otherwise, give me a shout.
  • Genesis
    • emulation should be pretty solid, and you shouldn't get any more of those 'orrible blue bars on some games.
  • SegaCD
    • emulation contains a LOT of experimental code this time around... There are still things with SegaCD that none of us has done as of yet, or not done correctly. I spent a lot of time trying to reverse-engineer real hardware (both a PAL MCD2 and an NTSC SCD1) before the big crash, and when I rewrote it I tried to get it closer to real hardware. SO there may be stuff that doesn't work anymore, but on the plus side, there is stuff that finally works, or should work ;) Testing will prove if this is in fact stable enough. The PCM chip and the CD-ROM controller are the two biggest rewrites.
As with his release of Klive, he only gave a link to the file not a page. Download the file from the link above

Raine V0.36.1 Released
The arcade emulator(Win/Linux/DOS) has updated once again...Here's the following changes:
  • Fixed the zoom in the gunbird driver, especially for tengai. It's still not 100% perfect, but it's much better.
  • Added the first complete line scroll support in raine for the gunbird driver. Now tengai has a very precise and very fast line scroll. It's also used in Battle K-Road but it's much harder to notice there !
  • Fixed : the music was too fast in Rainbow Island and maybe some other games, the pause didn't work well anymore (the game timer was not stopped), the demos were unreadable (again !).
  • Added hotkeys for the "ghost" buttons on the raine bar (Dips, Region and Cheats).
  • The adpcm sound is mono, not stereo, so it's back to center position now (it was on the left side only before)
  • Fixed the long name for "Samurai Aces"
  • Switched to a gnu-like version number for raine (0.36.1 instead of 0.36a to avoid confusion).

TR64 OGL V0.7.1 beta Released
The OpenGL plugin for the N64 emulator has been updated today..Here's the following changes the arthur mentioned:
  • Here is the version 0.7.1beta of my plugin. This release has improved texture loading. Most noticeable in game that use paletted textures like Star Fox and NBA Hangtime. Also I have improved the support for Perfect Dark. There are still some issues with Perfect Dark. If someone would be so kind as to send me a screen shot of the spy cam, I would like to see it. I don't have the time to play the game to that point. Also I have switched over to Sick Deal's web page design.

Pete's (Win) PSX ASPI / IOCTL CDR V1.11 Released
Pete has updated the CDR plugin of PSX ASPI / IOCTL CDR (Win)PSX Emulators that support the PSEmu Pro Plugin system..Here's the following changes Pete mentioned:
  • I've added support for PPF3 patch files (in older versions only PPF1 and PPF2 were supported). Big thanx to Doug Hoskisson for giving me all the needed informations.
  • A new drive has beed installed into one of my PCs... it's a Liteon LTD163D DVD drive, and it worked not too bad in W9X using the BE_2 mode with my own and the internal epsxe cdr plugins. But... no subchannel handling was supported (neither in my nor in the epsxe plugin, the screen always stayed black when subchannels were enabled). So I had to start up my compiler and go to work :) Well, after a long fight with that drive I have figured out how to do it (interesting encoded subdata), and it's now fully supported in my plugin. Ah, but as always my advice is NOT to use the "read subchannels" option, better create a SBI or M3S file for copy-protected games, and use that file instead.
  • By digging through my plugin sources I've noticed, that the "Async read" caching mode was not correctly implemented with the "W2K/XP - IOCTL scsi commands" interface (it was more like a "double synchronous read mode", tsts). I've fixed that, now real async reads will be performed in W2K/XP, even without the ASPI interface, but honestly I've not noticed a big speed difference :)
  • What else? mmm, maybe a small report about the Liteon drive: while the raw psx cd reading performance in W9X is ok, the speed in WinXP is not perfect, especially with some mdecs: in W9X the drive played a test-mdec with 100 fps, while the same mdec dropped below 60 fps in WinXP! Just to compare the values: my old TEAC scsi drive can play the same mdec in both W9X and WinXP with 130 fps... mmm, and mdecs which don't use XA music were played fine on both drives and windows systems (around 250-300 fps)... maybe something I have to investigate further... somewhen!

                      AdvanceMAME V0.61.2 Released

                      • Added the `sdl' system which uses the libSDL graphics library. This system enable the use of the program in a Window Manager. But it isn't a good choice for a fullscreen use of the program because it can't generate `perfect' video mode.

                      • Added the `windows' target in the Makefile. It use the `sdl' system.

                      • Readded the basic `vbe' driver.
                      • Added the MMX detection in the linux and windows targets. Previously the MMX presence was assumed.
                      • Splitted the `input_map[,trak]' option in the input_map[,trakx] and `input_map[,traky]' options. Now you can assign different axes from different mouses.
                      • The `input_map[]' option now supports multiple input sources and eventually allow to negate them.
                      • Renamed the option `misc_language' to `misc_languagefile'.
                      • Fixed the saving of the cheats.
                      • Documented the various `misc_*file' options.

                      • Renamed the `input_safeexit' option to `misc_safequit' and added the options `misc_safequitdebug' and `misc_safequitfile'. The SafeQuit is now enabled by default.
                      • Revised the output format of all the documentation. Now it's available as formatted text, html and man pages.
                      • Fixed an overflow bug on the aspect computation. It prevented "Elevator Action" to run.
                      • Fixed the "Division by Zero" crash bug with the Rage128 board in the DOS svgaline driver.

                      • Added a `./configure' script in all the Linux distributions.
                      • Fixed the detection of the screen resize keys in the advcfg and advv utility in the Linux platform. The keys are now changed to 'i' and 'k'.
                      • Added the options `device_video_8bit', `device_video_15bit', `device_video_16bit', `device_video_32bit' to selectively disable some bit depths on the video drivers.
                      • Fixed the colors on the snapshots of games with a 32 color depth.

                      NeoPop V0.68/V1.03 Released
Thanks to Xeon-G For the news!!
The popular NeoGeo Pocket Color emulator(WIN has been updated today once again...Here's whats new :
                        v0.68 Core:
                        • Fixed "Gals Fighters", thanks to Judge for helping with that one!
                        • The code is now fully GCC compatible without changes (I hope!).
                        • Fixed the default colour mode of "Neo-Neo! V1.0 (PD)".
                        • Added support for link-up bios calls.
                        • Removed frameskipping, makes NeoPop FASTER for most people.
                        • Fixed a crashing bug that occurs at the end of "Card Fighters", thanks to "Mark Ostasiuk Jr" for the saved states.
                        • Fixed some inconsequential CPU bugs.
                        Win32 v1.03:
                        • Added link-up support using TCP/IP. Many games seem to work a little. Unfortunately many games aren't very tolerant of bad connections. Note: the TCP/IP connection itself is persistant and will only break when you exit or use the disconnect option in the link-up dialog. So you can change games at will, without breaking the connection.
                        • Also added full-screen mode, use 'Esc'/ Alt-Enter to toggle.
                        • Right click the window to get the recent files as a popup.
                        • Changing or adding a new joystick is now detected while running. Open the "Controls" dialog to detect the new configuration.
                        • Deactivated 'auto-pause' to make link-up testing easier.
                        • Fixed language patching for dialogs.
                        • Changed the format of the language files and added extra tags. There is currently no translation support for the link-up menu as it is still subject to change.

The multi-machine emulator (DOS/Win)(capablilties of emulating : Master System, Game Gear, SC-1000, SC-3000, Sega Mark III(+ FM Unit), Colecovision , Othello Multivision systems.) has been updated today..Here's the changes:
                        Meka 0.63b
                        • [Windows] Disabled access to hardware YM-2413 emulation using OPL under Windows 2000 and XP, avoiding crashes in certain cases.
                        • Removed rare PSG debugging messages that were accidentally left.
                        • Fixed timing of the {LD,CP,IN,OT}[ID]R transfer/comparaison Z80 opcodes, which were made too slow by 8 cycles in version 0.63. "The Castle" (SG-1000) was affected.
                        • Fixed Sega Keyboard mapping for the "Yen" key on Japanese keyboard (untested). Note that the mapping for certain specials keys seems not to be right yet using the Windows version.
                        • Performed some minor calling optimizations.
                        • Updated Dutch, Deutsch, Italian, Spanish and Swedish translations with missing messages. (Thanks to their respective mainteners!)
                        Meka 0.63:
                        • Implemented a cyclic color allocation algorythm, reducing palette changes even more in some games. Users with videocard/drivers having problems changing palette can expect less slowdown in Game Gear games.
                        • Tested every single Master System games, and wrote a multiplayer games list out of them. It is included in the emulator (MULTI.TXT).
                        • Added 21 missing undocumented Z80 opcodes in the ED instruction set, including the wonderful OUT (A), 0.
                        • Fixed PSG emulation. The holding note after text boxes shows in "Alex Kidd in Miracle World" is no more, and noise channel writes were fixed (as used by CodeMasters games: Micro Machines drums now sounds correctly, etc...). Thanks to the great Maxim for his informations!
                        • Fixed Light Phaser shooting position for when left column blanking is enabled (a bug leaked in since a few version).
                        • Fixed 64-bytes ROM footer detection.
                        • Fixed a bug affecting Hardware Reset and ROM reloading on SG-1000/SC-3000 and Colecovision emulation. As far as I know, only "Pac-Man" (Coleco) was affected after an Hardware Reset, but other ROMs could as well. Thanks to James Carter for the bug report.
                        • Fixed a two-years-old bug that may lead MEKA to crash when loading a savestate that was previously used under the debugger.
                        • Fixed Sega Keyboard mapping for the unusual "Pi" / "Ro" key, so Japanese users can use it at its standard mapping location. Thanks to Yujiro for the bug report.
                        • FPS Counter is now enabled/disabled by pressing Alt+F, instead of keeping F pressed.
                        • [Windows] Fixed time display.
                        • Updated to newer GCC version, hopefully little improving performances.
                        • Added and modified entries to the checksum and compatibility lists.
Some interesting ones the author could rename after redumping:
                        • Alex Kidd in Miracle World [A] --> Alex Kidd in Miracle World [Export]
                        • Alex Kidd in Miracle World [B] --> Alex Kidd in Miracle World [USA]
