Coming soon to your Xbox 360..... Playstation 3 ads.
Sony is to get some valuable advertising in a very unexpected place, thanks to their sponsorship of the Champions League. Sidings sporting PS3 ads will appear in the Xbox 360 version of "UEFA Champions League 2006/2007", the latest installment in the popular football game series.
    • The reason for this is that Sony PlayStation sponsors the UEFA Champions League. They have done this for many years but only recently replaced the PlayStation 2 ads with PS3 ads. Sponsorship deals are often carried over into sports games, which is what has occured in this case.
Sweet irony, coming in the same week when a slow-witted web designer managed to use an image from the artwork for Xbox 360 title PGR3 in a Sony Gran Turismo banner.

No PS3 price drop in 2 to 3 years?

Some say yes, some say no, others making a wild guess. For now, I guess we will have to take Sony word on it. Yea, I know that is hard to bite for some of you.
    • Even with a turn in fortunes on Sony's hardware losses, don't expect a price drop any time soon. Oneda said that Sony is not consdering a price drop right now, although something could be possible in 2 or 3 years.
As long good games come to the system, it will do decent.

    GRAW 2 Demo release

Fans of GRAW 1 would be excited to know that a demo has been put on Xbox Live. The down side of it? It is only for Gold members. The download comes in at 625MB.
    • Following up the 2006 platinum seller Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (GRAW), Ubisoft brings the sequel GRAW2, with more of what fans loved about the original with 12 single player missions, 14 multiplayer maps, and a 6 mission coop campaign. You are the Soldier of the Future 2.0. All systems have been upgraded to give you more power and control on the battlefield. Following the failure of the “coup d’etat” in Mexico City Mexican rebels have gathered their remaining forces along the US border. Lead your team of elite Special Forces for the first time on US soil - straddling the border between Juarez, Mexico and El Paso, Texas. The Ghosts have less than 72 hours to stop a nuclear attack.
This game looks to be done way better over the first and looking forward to it in March.

    PS3 gets rumbled, after all.
Splitfish has developed a retro-fit force-feedback system, called "sensation feedback", for the PS3 SIXAXIS controller.
      • The SensorFX feedback system can be sold as an add-on to existing controllers or as an imbedded feature that is part of a standard controller. The SensorFX PS3 add-on version is simply connected to the USB plug on the PS3 controller, similar to SplitFish's MotionFX.
They've also created a system to add SIXAXIS style motion control to the Dual-Shock, but we'll have to wait and see how a modified SIXAXIS compares to it's much-loved predecessor.

      PS3 price drop on 2007??

That's what Analyst are saying. They feel there is a chance that Sony can cut it's price on the PS3 in 07. Even though Sony stated there will be no such thing until at least 2008.
      • Yes, the PS3 is quite an expensive console, but there's still a chance that Sony may cut the price in 2007. Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian believes that it's too early to rule out a price reduction. A price cut or enhancements may be coming to the PSP as well.
I think no way they will price cut it. With the billions they lost and the cost to make, I just don't see it happening. They just raised the price in Canada by $50.

Sony settles in unauthorised DRM row
Sony is to reimburse customers up to £76 (US $150) for damage caused by the installation of unauthorised DRM software. Whilst they have agreed to settle, they have not admitted breaking the law, the FTC will decide on whether to press on with legal proceedings or leave it at purely compensation.
        • The FTC said the software "exposed consumers to significant security risks and was unreasonably difficult to uninstall". Under the settlement, Sony BMG must allow consumers to exchange affected CDs bought before 31 December 2006, and reimburse them up to $150 (£76) to repair damage to their computers.
Time to get yer claims in.

        Gaming on Vista

Looking to get Vista right away? Looking to see how gaming will do on Vista over XP? Here is a nice read on how this user tests over the latest version (RTM, Build 6000) of Vista Ultimate against XP.
        • Gaming. Pastime for some, necessity for others. Yes, gaming is an integral part of everyday life on the PC and Vista promises to be a great OS for the job. Ignoring the fact of future DX10 games, does Vista prove to be a gaming friendly PC today?
I haven't been thrilled with Vista my self from using it. But as time goes, we shall see how it developes.

        Color your Wii

Looking to give some excitment in that Wii of yours? Add a little color to it to spice things up. Why does that sound so wrong?
        • In a rather shocking revelation this weekend, an anonymous Nintendo rep revealed to GameDrift that a plan is running through the pipeline to colorize the, as of now, rather bland coloration of its hit console, Wii. The rep did not reveal detailed specifics, however did remark that a red and black console have been confirmed.
Though the site says official, wait more on details on this from Nintendo them selves.

        Wii hacked, claims "Ninja Team"
A group purporting to be "Ninja Team", the people behind the NinjaDS device, claims to have a chip crack for Nintendo's new console. Whilst the main evidence at the moment seems to be some shady looking videos ( exhibit A & exhibit B ), there is supposedly at least one reliable source who claims to have seen it working.
          • "On first inspection the chip looks unlike most mods seen in consoles and appears to be some kind of 8-pin PIC (a programmable micro-controller), leading many to speculate that the device is fake. In fact PICs were often used in defeating the security implementations of the original Playstation, and it's entirely possible the team has programmed a PIC to do the same for the Wii."
Their credibility isn't helped by the amateurish look and spurious response of their web-site but time will tell - it's due to be released on 1st February.

Original games to hit Wii Shop, confirms Nintendo
Hudson Entertainment, one of the biggest supporters of Nintendo's Virtual Console service, hinted this week that it is aware of plans by Nintendo to allow developers to make original games available through a new Wii download service in the future.
CVG quizzed Nintendo of Europe on the subject, and they said, "Nintendo has developed a programming system that will allow small independent developers to make games for Wii download service.
              • "We cannot confirm at this time in what format the new content will be delivered, but in the future there will be original games available for download through the Wii Shop."
Nintendo's Japanese president, Satoru Iwata, has previously spoken of his desire to turn Wii into the system where "the big ideas can prevail over big budgets," and the obvious way to achieving such a reality is to allow for digital distribution via the internet. It's only a matter of time now!

IBM touts PS3 as Cell development platform
Sony said from the beginning that the PS3 would be much more versatile than other more conventional consoles, and there have been Linux PS3 builds to use the box as a DVR or web server for some months now. What is new is IBM putting forward the PS3 as a Cell development platform, including publishing installation and development tutorials as part of their developerWorks program. The idea is to allow programmers to get to grips with this new CPU technology without shelling out for a more expensive devkit.
                Visit the IBM site HERE
                • "The Sony PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) is the easiest and cheapest way for programmers to get their hands on the new Cell Broadband Engine (Cell BE) processor and take it for a drive. Discover what the fuss is all about, how to install Linux on the PS3, and how to get started developing for the Cell BE processor on the PS3. "
Probably only of passing interest to most, but I know one programmer who's beside himself at the thought of it.

                DNF finally coming?

1UP caught over at Shacknews a screen shot of the "It is done when we say it is done" game Duke Nukem Forever.
                • To prove the skeptics wrong, 3D Realms president George Broussard randomly posted a thumbnail-sized screen shot from the game on the Shacknews message boards. Georgey says it's in-game, but they've also said the game will be released some day, so take it with the appropriate grain of salt: See Gamsutra Profile HERE

Is it me or does that shot look like a small action figure, such as in the movie Small Soldiers?

                ZSNES! 1.51
This release is mostly a bunch of bug fixes for things new and altered in v1.51.
                • the emulation side of things, we now finally have 224 lines displayed correctly, and some minor timing fixes. Major emulation core changes won't be until a future release.
                    changes
                • I would like to thank all those who reported bugs and sent in patches for v1.50, we've fixed roughly 3 dozen problems that cropped up with v1.50, including issues with loading older save states and various save state saving/loading problems, so this release should now be quite stable.
                • For SDL users who had sound issues before, we've made some fixes to that, as well as added support for libao sound output. Run configure with --enable-libao to get the new sound options compiled in. See zsnes --help for a list of drivers you can use. Feel free to play with each one and see which works best for you, there should be something to make everyone happy. Note however that certain older Linux versions have a bug in their threading which would cause all libao drivers to not output sound. If you're having such an issue, install a new Kernel.
                    :/
                • Also requested many times in the past was separate input for each game. I'm pleased to announce that with our new PSR language, adding this greatly desired feature was a cinch, so enjoy!
                • For those of you dumping to raw or AVI, you're now able to specify a logo file to use in the config file. You're now also able to dump past the end of a ZMV.

Coming in from Australian News, it's been said the PS3 will go for $1000 when release there..Ouch!
                • PLAYSTATION fanatics, stand by to be milked: Sony expects you to hand over $1000 for its new console, more than 50 per cent more than Japanese gamers are paying.
Also word has it that in Canada, the PS3 has been climbing to $699 for the 60GB. Anyone in Canada can confirm this? Here is the post about it..HERE
                • Future Shop and Best Buy, the two biggest consumer electronics retailers, without warning, quietly raised prices on the PlayStation 3. As listed on Future Shop Web site, the 60 GB version now costs $699.99, an increase of $40. Best Buy’s Web site also reflects the new 60 GB price of $699.99. Neither site has the 20 GB PS3 in its listings, but a Future Shop employee did say that the lesser PS3 is now listed at $599.99, a $50 increase from the original price.

Tose: The Real (Secret) Game Developer

1UP has a nice bit that talks about a secret in the gaming industry. A secret that many of you may of not known. Do you think that game you have for your system was made by the company that has its name on it? It could be that it wasn't even touch by them, yet they get the credit for it...
                • I was walking by the Capcom booth with a friend of mine deeply entrenched in the Japanese games industry. We checked out Resident Evil Gun Survivor, the Resident Evil offshoot for PlayStation that made use of the light gun. My friend turned to me and whispered "You know, this game wasn't actually developed by Capcom...it was done by a company called Tose. But you're not supposed to know that."
So next time you pick up that game, think again who may of made it.

                Reggie Fils-Aimes and the Wii

GamePro sits with Reggie and ask him about the future of the Wii. Here is a cert..
                • GamePro: Where would you say the Wii stands now? Did it meet your expectations or exceed them?

                • Fils-Aime: I'll be honest with you -- I'm blown away. We knew we would sell every piece of hardware put into the market, but we did not expect all the buzz and the advocacy...especially from non-gamers. I can't tell you how many people I have talked to or read about who played Wii Sports during the holidays and were suddenly surrounded by relatives who wanted to give it a shot. Everyone, from kids up to grandma and grandpa.

We knew Wii was a system for the masses, and yes, we were confident that was going to happen-but this fast? Personally, I'm just blown away.

No PS3 price cut anytime soon

In the latest issue of Game Informer, Jack Tretton talks about how the PS3 cost a lot more to make and R & D for the unit.
                • For reference, the PS2 was reduced from $299 to $199 in the United States on May 14, 2002, 565 days after the Oct. 20, 2000 release date. Using this data and Tretton's above answer, we can expect that the PS3 won't come down in price until at least June 4, 2008.
How is the Japan market able to lower their 20GB system to about $320 then? Thoughts anyone?

Video games can satisfy deep psychological needs

Wow, a study right in my home town and where I work sugest playing Video Games can fulfill our needs.
                • The more a game fulfilled a player's sense of independence, achievement and connectedness to others, the more likely he or she was to keep playing, Dr. Scott Rigby of Immersyve, a Florida-based virtual environment think tank, and colleagues from the University of Rochester in New York found. And the more fully a player's needs were satisfied, the better he felt after playing.

Interview with Hideo Kojima - MGS4

An inteview with Hideo Kojima from Game Pro talks about many things such as MGS4, PS3, and getting into PC Development. Here is a cert when ask about 1080p for MGS4.
                • GP: Is 1080p a goal for Metal Gear Solid 4? Do you think 1080p is an important feature to have?

                • Kojima: In that sense, the answer is simple: we're not really insistent on sticking to HD. We're not the ones who are saying we want HD. We want something really pretty on a very small screen. But 360 and PS3 don't allow that because HD is kind of a must-have...

I'm not interested, myself, about HD at all. Because if it gets prettier and prettier with more details, that means more mistakes [on the game development side].

As you know, MGS games tend not to care about how clean the screen looks. It's more about the atmosphere that we give it. Meaning, once we create graphics in a scene, we deliberately make them look dirtier to give the atmosphere more life. My team and I think that high-res is not needed for the next two or three years.

                XBLA size limit increase?

And they say size doesn't matter! 1UP has a nice article on how the XBLA is increasing their size from 50MB to 250MB limit, with an approval of 450MB. Also it looks like a 512MB memory card will be coming also.
                • Under condition of anonymity, sources revealed to 1UP that the file size for Xbox Live Arcade titles has been increased from 50 MB to 250 MB and with Microsoft's approval, that size can be expanded to 450 MB. When asked for comment on the reported change to file size, Microsoft said, "We do not comment on rumor and speculation and so we can not confirm that rumor.
With Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for XBLA coming in at 96MB, will this rumor hold true?

                Slow sales in Japan

Week ending for Jan.14th in Japan didn't look so hot for consoles. Could it be that the hand held division is the cause for this, or that Next Gen isn't a leap over last gen? Or is it just the slow season of the year? Here are some stats..
                • Nintendo Wii - 93,708
                • PlayStation 3 - 25,531
                • Xbox 360 - 9,035

An Interview with Gates Part 1

Another Interview with Bill Gates after the CES show. Dean Takahashi had some chat with Bill on stuff such as IPTV, Xbox 360, and what Bill thinks about Sony and Nintendo stratagy. Here is a cert when ask on the Sony first generation games.
                • Q: Do you think that with this generation of games, Sony is going to have anything that looks better than the Xbox 360’s Halo 3 for the PlayStation 3?

                • A: No. They were going to have the Cell be the video processor. But they didn’t know what they were doing. They said the Cell is the video processor. But they turned to Nvidia at the last minute, but Nvidia can’t do embedded DRAM. Go look at the bandwidth problems. Go ask the guys running … now. They took their year and burned it by not having a decent CPU strategy and then turning to Nvidia at the last minute. It’s a very unusual thing. Those processors are isolated from each other. You are seeing great game developers. Things will get better on us and on them. We think they’re get better on us. That is so close. We claim we’re better. It doesn’t matter. It’s just like pointing at the Xbox 1. We were 20 percent better. But it didn’t matter. We were a year late, didn’t have the best games. We had this bigger box. We did have online. We didn’t switch positions on that.
Check out the rest on what his thought were on Nintendo.

                Raine v0.50.1 Released !
                  raine (0.50.1) unstable; urgency=low
                  • double buffer: forced yuv overlay colors when in fullscreen double buffered (red & blue could be inverted)
                  • double buffer : fixed the crash when using scale2x/3x
                  • fix the dlls in windows so that SDL_image and raine use the same dll for png.
                  • Add some info in the video info dialog about the blit method selected (yuv overlay, scale2x, 3x or simple blits).
                  • fix very slow gui updates when in fullscreen with a hardware surface
                  • Added the mutlipac 1.5 rom (see : http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~msilvius/sillyarcade.htm ). Sorry the rom is rare, and that's one of the reasons why I added it. The other is because it's an impressive hack : 24 games in only 1 z80 rom, I never saw this before ! ;-) When you have selected a game in the menu, press P1 start or p1 b1 to play it. The hiscores and history are reseted with the game you select. To return to the menu, reset raine (F1 is the default control for that). So it adds virtualy 24 new games in only 1 rom ;-) !
                  • Now raine changes its resolution if you ask it in video options even if it uses yuv overlays. It can be usefull to force the yuv overlay to exactly 2x the size of the original screen for example (to get a clearer picture). And it will try to avoid windows biger than the screen in windowed modes.
                  • double buffering is now optional, you can disable it in "Video options". The default is to use it when available, and normally all the bugs related to double buffering are fixed, but anyway, maybe it can be usefull to disable it sometimes...
                  • Fix the fps counter when the framecount is not limited
                  • The return of the sound options dialog, with the addition of the ensoniq voice filters option (leave it to yes if you have a fast computer, the sound is better with this option turned on).

EU: Your violent game blocking commitie

Looks like the EU wants to block and put regulations on the games you buy. Have to protect the children from those deadly video games. Maybe Jack should just head over to Europe instead of trying here in the US.
                      • On Sunday, Frattini called for EU ministers to agree “to share best practices” on how to handle the issue. He previously suggested EU ministers adopt EU-wide labelling rules for such games and create a voluntary code of conduct on interactive games targeted at children.
Just remember, it's the video games fault, such as Final Fantasy VII, that makes you go out and stab2 people to death and kidnaps one. Not the demented brain of that person.

50% of retailers have PS3 in stock

Is the PS3 demand slowing down? or is it just Sony is pumping them out fast and demand in certain areas have been met? It's a debate that can go on for pages long.
                      • Over 50% of U.S retailers have PlayStation 3s in stock, while Wii is still almost impossible to find, according to a new report from American Technology Research analyst P.J. McNealy
I say demand has drop since the Nintendo Wii has sold more units, had a World Wide launch, and still can't find them on the shelf.

                      Oblivion for PlayStation 3 Screenshots

The popular RPG that been out for the PC and 360 is making it's way to the PS3 with some added features. Take a look at the screen shots for the PS3.
                      • Oblivion features a groundbreaking new AI system, called Radiant AI, which gives non-player characters (NPCs) the ability to make their own choices based on the world around them. They’ll decide where to eat or who to talk to and what they’ll say. They’ll sleep, go to church, and even steal items, all based on their individual characteristics. Full facial animations and lip-synching, combined with full speech for all dialog, allows NPCs to come to life like never before.

Sir Howard meant to say the launch was set for 'this Spring.' The release for the PS3 in Europe and other PAL countries remains March."

                      28 hrs to Lev 70

That's how long it took French Player Gawell to get to the level in WoW. Now that he is level 70, what is he going to do as everyone else is catching up??
                      • Cau (the 1st european lvl 60) and I planned the exp route step by steps, trying everything to make sure it was the most approriate, the groups organization with the guild Millenium and their members. Each member rotated using a definite order to help me to grind on mobs, mostly with AE, surrounded with several guildmates healers, tanks, pullers etc...
I like my MMO's, but get real here. 10 levels in 28 hrs? I think someone needs to get out a little more, just my opinion.

                      PS3: Best New Console?

IGN sure to think so. IGN gives the PS3 the 2006 award for Best New Console. I think I speak for most and call BS on this as many will most likely say the Wii is the Best New Console for 2006. Of course the Xbox 360 came in 2005, so it wasn't a choice here.
                      • Judging the consoles based upon a broad perspective that includes software now available and coming in the future an entirely different argument could be formulated. However, from a hardware perspective, the PS3 is by far the more interesting console.
Does anyone feel the PS3 is big? Wern't people complainingback then on the orginal Xbox that it was to big? I don't know, just seem people come up with any excuse on a system these days.

Red Octane still fighting for Wireless Guitar

Couple of folks over at Wired has caught up with Guitar Hero II makers Red Octane at CES. It looks like RO is still going through Red Tape with Microsoft to bring out a wireless unit for the 360.

                      Sony missing their sales goals??

Gamasutra has a write up that mentions Japanese analyst group Nomura Securities says Sony will only reach 75% of its fiscal year sales target . 25% loses on the PS3 in sales? Will the analyst be right or it's just plain smoke? Time will tell, but as seeing PS3 in stores (80 at my Best Buy) and Wii's out of stock in an hr, it may just happen.
                      • Sony's estimated PlayStation 3 sales up to the end of March 2007 were cut from 6 million to 4.5 million by the group, with what it called "poor sales" in North America through December as the leading factor cited for the drop.
So far, news for Sony haven't been to hot since release of the system.

Bungie admits Halo 2 a "Shadow Of What It Could Have Been"
In a lengthy - and highly informative - eight page interview published in the latest issue of Edge magazine, Bungie revealed many aspect of their thoughts on the Halo franchise and what they expect from Halo 3. Without doubt the most interesting part of the review was when Chris Butcher, technical lead on Halo 3 spoke about Halo 2 and how different the development was between the original game and the Xbox sequel.
                      • He said "Halo came together in 4 -5 weeks polishing period at the end. No more than that. That's the period in which we really had the perfect storm. The team was all there, everything was working great, and the entire game came together in that period. One of things that's stuns me when I think about and I can't believe its true, we had none of that for Halo 2. Take that polish period and completely get rid of it. We miscalculated we screwed up, we came down to the wire and just lost all of that. So Halo 2 is far less than it could and should be in many ways because of that." He went on to talk about the multiplayer saying “Even the multiplayer experience is a pale shadow of what it could and should have been if we got the timing of our schedule right. It's astounding to me. I f**king cannot play Halo2 multiplayer. I cannot do it. And that's why I know Halo 3 will be so much better."

                      The porn industry chooses HD-DVD

Can't decide what format you want your stash to be in? Well it looks like the Porn Industry preferes to go with HD-DVD. Does this mean Blu-Ray is in trouble? Didn't this same thing happen with Betamax and VHS also? Well, now you can take your 100gigs of stash and put them on the media of choice!
                      • Quite famously in the war between Betamax and VHS the latter won especially because the adult industry preferred it. If you've been around long enough, you probably remember that the very early home video rental stores were primarily responsible for driving Betamax out of the market. And those stores carried almost exclusively pornographic content.

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes Hits Jan. 30th

Looking for the next MMO fix? Tired of WoW or EQII? Looking to make a profit in Gold Selling? Brad McQuaid has set out to make that happen with Vanguard, well minus the gold selling. But going with Sony as the distributer have people worry as many felt they destroyed his EverQuest game when he was with Sony then.
                      • San Diego, CA - January 11, 2007 - Sony Online Entertainment and Sigil Games Online today announced that the upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game Vanguard: Saga of Heroes will be released to retail outlets across North America and Europe on January 30, 2007, for the suggested retail price of US$49.99. A limited edition is also available for a suggested retail price of US$89.99.
Lets hope Sony doesn't have any say in this game as Brad makes it out to believe.

                      Ding Round 2 - Sony

After Peter Moore and Chris Satchelle poping shots at Sony, it is now ON! Dave Karraker had a few things to say over at the GamePro crew about Microsoft.
                      • "I would argue that consumers worldwide, to the tune of over 200 million PlayStations, PS2s, PSPs and PS3s, have decided whether or not Sony has the DNA to deliver hardware, software and services to suit this industry," Karraker told GamePro.
                      • "Microsoft views 'sold' as what has been sold to retailers but could be sitting on pallets in warehouses or stacked on store shelves. 'Sold' to Sony has always meant what the consumer has actually purchased."
Lets who will be the last man standing on this Pay Per View station! Though 2 against one is a little unfair right now.

                      Ding Round 1 - Microsoft

Peter Moore has a nice chat with GamesIndustry.biz at CES. Moore had a few things to say about Sony's Online ability. Here is a small blurb..
                      • It is not in Sony's DNA to be able to get that up and running from zero. We learned from the get go that you want single gamer profiles, you want consistent presence. I want to know where you are and what you're playing.

It's going to take them a couple of years to get up to speed on this. And I'm not sure that they necessarily have the talent, or that it's built into who they are as a company.
Ouch, not in Sony's DNA and no talent. Could it be true from all the MMO players on what they state on Sony's network? Time will tell.

An Interview with the Lord "John Carmack"

Game Informer met up with John Carmack at CES 2007 to have a little talk with him. They talk about many things such as id's Quake Wars. But one thing to note is the mention of DX10. Here is what john had to say...
                      • GI: A lot of gamers are in the boat right now--and I’m in the boat as well--where they’re saving money to buy a new rig. I was at QuakeCon two years ago with my computer, and I was just slow. So I’ve been saving cash to buy a new rig to handle the next-gen of PC games. Quake Wars, Spore and Crysis are all coming out on the horizon, and there’s a big push for PC games this year. Do you think gamers should take the plunge now for DX10, or do you think they should wait and stick with DX9.
                      • Carmack: I don’t think that there’s any huge need for people to jump right now. All the high-end video cards right now—video cards across the board—are great nowadays. This is not like it was years ago, where they’d say, “This one’s poison, stay away from this. You really need to go for this.” Both ATI and Nvidia are going a great job on the high end. Internally, we’re still using more Nvidia cards, but it’s not necessarily because we’ve done a careful analysis and we decided that they’re superior in some way. They have better OpenGL support, but they’re all good cards right now. Personally, I wouldn’t jump at something like DX10 right now. I would let things settle out a little bit and wait until there’s a really strong need for it. I doubt there’s going to be any radical, obvious sweet spot where it’s like, “Now is the time to go get things.” It’s fairly mature, the pace that things are going on, and I don’t expect there’s going to be any huge sea changes in the way things are moving.
Check out the atticle for the extensive 7 page interview. Read what he has to say about Sony on the PS3 =).

                      The Big 3 being sued

Looks like Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft are being taken to the courts. Texan firm Fenner Investments says they are infringing over a pantent of theirs for Low Voltage Port on the controllers these consoles use.
                      • The company is seeking injunctions against the continued sale of controllers from all three companies, along with damages, interest and legal fees.

                      Xbox 360v2 is just research

Game Spot has an interview with Chris Satchell and talks about rumors of the 360 version 2 that has been shown with the HDMI plug on it. Chris mentions that it is only a research prototype box. Catch the link to read the full interview on others things comming to the 360.
                      • GS: What can you tell us about the HDMI-enabled Xbox 360 rumors that have been going around?
                      • CS: We're always working on prototypes and new technologies and just playing with stuff in Redmond to see what's interesting. I think at the moment we have the widest available connections on the system. If you want to get great HD, I think we've got a good solution for that. In the future it's interesting to see where standards evolve to. I think one of the problems that the whole industry, us and entertainment, are facing at the moment is we're in this world where standards are evolving very quickly.

PlayStation 3 Misses 2 Million Goal

Sony sold 466,716 PlayStation 3 units in Japan from its Nov. 11 domestic launch date to the end of December, according to a market survey released Tuesday by Japanese computer game publisher Enterbrain Inc. The figures fall short of the 1 million consoles Sony predicted it would ship domestically by year's end.

Earlier this week, Sony said it met its shipping target of 1 million PS3s in the United States in 2006. But the combined U.S. and Japan total puts the company well below its global shipping goal of 2 million.

With this news, we will start trying to bring in other news on games in general instead of just Emulation.
